Chase

I grab Mr. Fluffs, my secret teddy bear, cuddling him in my arms. He's a fluffy little bear with a little baby bow tie. He's my little secret.

I tuck him in my arms and look up at the ceiling. If he was real he'd be my best friend besides Kane, Asher and Alex.

If I thought Jason making fun of my smile was bad I could only imagine what people would say about Mr. Fluffs. I smile at him and fall asleep.

It's the first game of the season, everyone is all dressed in their gear. We're on the ice preparing. The East Town Sharks. We come for blood and we devour.

"Alright boys it's the first game of the season," Coach Holloway says. "I want Sunshine center, Asher left wing, Alex right wing, Kane left defenseman, Silas Right defenseman, and Jason Goalie."

Silas Manson, our right defenseman, put him and Kane as a team...perfection. We call them The Ice Makers, it's kinda stupid, but well, they're defending our goal and we get to score.

The face-off, the adrenaline hits me, I narrow my eyes when I see the ref place the puck in the middle of the ice. And it begins.

I rip off my jersey as I make my way off the ice. My vision blocked I don't see anything in front of me causing me to run into someone small. My eyes widen. It's her. Cherry red hair, stoic look, beautiful.

"I— I'm sorry." I stutter, my cheek flushing a deep crimson red. She blinks at me, her eyes flickering to my stomach— my abs. That makes me flush even worse.

"It's fine." She grumbles as she walks past. Straight to Kane. My jaw drops slightly. He smiles when he sees her.

"Little sister you came!" Kane says hugging her but she pushes him off since he's all sweaty. She rolls her eyes when Asher and Alex come out after.

"Little Landry at our hockey game?!" Alex exclaims almost tripping on his own two feet. Asher looks just as surprised.

"Olive why are you here? You never come." Kane asks but smiles when he sees his mom standing in the corner.

"You really think I had a choice? She made me." Olive mumbles. Kane smiles again and now I see the resemblance in the two.

She's his sister, the one I've heard about but never seen. The girl I've been crushing on since last year. The school grump. How have I not have not know she was—

I'm knocked out of my thoughts by Kane calling me over, "Chase! Come over here!" I feel the blush in my neck as I make my way over there.

"Olive this is Chase," She looks at me and I freeze. My cheeks are burning. "Chase this is Olive, my twin sister."

Twin? I didn't know he had a twin. And we've been friends for almost two years. I'm sure he has a good reason he didn't tell me, right?

"He's just a little shy. Aren't you, sunshine?" Kane asks looking at me with a smirk. I look down at the ground and say nothing.

"But he's just so cute!" Asher smirks slightly as he squeezes my cheek. I smack his hand away, they're embarrassing me on purpose.

"Stop." I say in a quiet voice. I glance up only to see Olive staring straight at me, a look of something I can't decipher but it's not disgust.

Great for me, I guess. A girl is looking at me. And it's the one I've crushed on like I'm a little school boy.

"I— I better go shower." I stutter once again and walk away into the locker room, cheeks flushed. I can practically feel the smirk on Kane's face, that makes no sense but I don't care.

"Hi mom." I walk into the kitchen, my dad is grilling victory burgers on the grill. They're the team's biggest fans.

"Hi my beautiful boy." I groan, I hate when she calls me beautiful— I'm a dude. But I know she just loves me.

"Your sister is upstairs, tell her to come down, will you?" She asks and I nod heading up the stairs.

"Cecilia! It's almost time for dinner!" I knock on her door. She opens it and smirks at me. She has that look in her eyes— the one where she knows something.

"What?" I take a step back preparing myself for whatever crap she must know. She narrows her eyes at me and I raise an eyebrow.

"I saw the girl. And little brother I have never seen someone as flushed and stuttered as you were."

I groan and my cheeks burn once again. "No, you don't know what you're talking about. It was because I just finished a hockey game!"

"That's seriously your excuse for crushing on a girl? If you're going to use an excuse make sure it's better than that."

She walks past me with a smirk. "I will strangle you." She snickers at me and runs down the stairs. I chase after her.

"You're such a child and you're older than me!" I yell almost tripping down a step— then I actually do trip down the stairs.

"Priceless!" Cecilia laughs manically at me and points. She takes a picture of me and goes to show my parents who are now laughing. Now I can't help but laugh, too.

"Okay, okay, I get it. No need to rub it in my face, Cecilia! I fell and I look good doing it." I wiggle my eyebrows and we all bust out laughing again. See what happens when I try to be smooth?

We all sit on the patio and Dad hands everyone their burger. I look up at the sky and the stars are beautiful tonight. I wonder if anyone else is looking at the same stars as I am in this moment. Is there someone who's doing the exact same thing and neither of us know it?

It's kinda cool thinking that way— imagining someone just sitting outside watching the stars just like you. And you never know what a person is really thinking at the moment. You never know what really lies below a persons heart.

I believe when you really dissect everything of the person— not literally of course, but you can find what's hidden beneath the surface. What's hiding from your normal view. The hidden side.

Later that night I decide to text Kane:

Me: Why didn't you tell me she was your sister?

Kane: Promise you won't tell?

Me: On the team and my heart.

Kane: She'd rather be invisible, disappear, not be seen.
