As Shreya left, I couldn't shake off the image of her in that black dress adorned with pearls. She looked ethereal, but not in that way, not in the way a man typically admires a woman. No, she just looked... beautiful.
"Who was that girl?" came a voice from behind me. I turned to see Ma standing there, her eyes curious.
"Ma, she's Shreya Oberoi, the one with whom this party is arranged, and she is just my business partner" I replied, trying to keep my tone neutral.
"You two didn't look like business partners," she remarked, her intuition always sharp.
"Ma, she's just a friend, a colleague," I added quickly, not wanting her to jump to conclusions.
"By the way, I like her," she said before leaving, leaving me with a sigh of resignation. She wouldn't understand the complexities of my feelings.
Just then, a call came through, and it was Yash. He apologized for not being able to make it, citing an important case for tomorrow.
"It's okay, Yash, I understand," I reassured him, knowing how crucial his career was to him.
"And about Mom and Dad... you know about them, right?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.
"Yes, don't worry, nothing will happen," I assured him before bidding goodbye and ending the call. Family matters always seemed to linger, even in the midst of professional responsibilities.
