Cheri swiftly adjusts to her new home, enjoying the frequent company of Alexis and Ashton. She was allowed to do basically whatever she wanted, except go to the upstairs bedroom where Kristoffer had slept. She wasn't bothered at all by that rule, but it wasn't like she didn't want to break it. Every night, curled up under her double duvet, she would fight in her brain to go visit the room. She felt curious, but Alexis and Ashton were too nice to bend their rules. She would kick herself under the covers, and pull the hood of her unicorn onesie further over her eyes to shut her brain up. Cheri would listen to the sound of the cars passing the house and think up stories and things to occupy her brain other than rule-breaking. She'd shut her eyes tight, enjoying the blackness and comfort of the dark. She'd hear someone twist in their bed, or a door closing, or people leaving the house. She'd pretend to fall asleep when Alexis came to check on her. Then, she'd hear the same muffled conversation between Ashton and Alexis.
'Is she asleep?'
'Yeah.'
'Good. Do you think she's gone upstairs to see the room? I know how curious she is.'
'No.'
'Thank god.'
'Night, Ashton.'
'Night.'
Then she'd do the same routine. Turn on her light, read about two hundred pages of a book, stare at the clock, get a glass of water, and read until she fell asleep with the book on her face. She'd wake up with her hair a tangled mess, desperately needing to be brushed. Cheri felt bored and missed Yen, but seeing Alexis and Ashton brings a smile to her face. They always had something for her to do. But inside, her brain was fuzzy with the dilemma to visit the room or not.
Until tonight.
Cheri creeps out of her room at about 9:30 pm. She sees the shortstaircase and feels her feet drawing her towards the door. She can't controlher body as she floats up the stairs, making zero noise. She looks down the tinycorridor, seeing one little door. She freezes with nerves; what could be inthere? Dead people? Something dangerous? Weapons? Cheri holds her breath andopens the door. Nothing special, just a room. It smells like Kristoffer, like asoft, pleasant cologne. It looks like he left in a rush because one of hishoodies is left on the bed. She'd seen him wearing that one before. She decidesto shut the door and go back to bed to mull the room over in her dreams. Shelies in her bed, curled up under the covers. She thinks about the room, the softscent of the room lingering in her nose. It comforts her. She doesn't read anyof her books, and she's out like a light within seconds. Her last thoughtbefore she falls asleep is "What if Alexis and Ashton find out?".
A/N
Here's a quick little chapter for you all! I am so bloody tired and achy, I hate exams. I need to type up like three chapters because I have a week away with school, I'm super hype. We're just going to sit around a campfire, roast marshmallows and spill secrets with our friends in dorms. I go to a co-ed so I can't hang out with my male friends in their dorms, and we aren't allowed phones. We're "disconnecting" idk. See you soon! <3
