The fall was pretty nasty, on that, we can agree
But they're never really clean and sometimes neither is the break
And by the time I left you the room looked like a bruise
A curtain breach let pink and blue light wash across your faceBut, is it so unforgivable to wander off the course?
We had a pretty good run but, I just can't fucking do it anymoreI was eager to commit once, not for forever
'Cause if you remember, I never once said you should never say, "Never"
'Cause that's gravity for you when you're stuck up and stupid
It turns you into a student for thinking you were so cleverAnd I'm not afraid to call it the way that it is
Looks like you wasted a wish on some supposed second wind
And I don't care who sees me behaving so ugly
I just hate that you loved me and that this is how it ends✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
No amount of force could stop your hands from shaking. Your panicked breaths, the collapse of your knees, even the tight grip around your wrists. You held the envelope and its contents close to your chest, hugging it in a desperate attempt to feel the embrace of the woman whose face was so delicately printed on the invitation.
"Don't let weddings and funerals be the only reason why you come back home." They were some of the last words she had told you, the last promise you would ever make. Somehow, you managed to fail her simple request.
"I'm so sorry, Carla...I'm so sorry..." you cried into your hands, pulling your knees up to your chest before eventually collapsing on the kitchen floor. Any words you tried to say were tied up in a jumbled-up mess of sobs and saliva. Your chest felt heavy, your head felt light. It was almost as if the burdens of the sky had fallen right on top of you to the point where your breaths gasped at the lack of air in the atmosphere. You didn't want to cry; the feelings of guilt and remorse made it feel wrong to do so. And yet tears continued to stream, crashing into the plunge pool formed in your cupped hands.
Without any words or hesitations, you felt the weight of a blanket being wrapped around your shoulders. You were finally able to shakily inhale a deep breath, feeling a solid and supportive hug on top of you. You didn't feel suppressed or small from the squeezes, you felt his sentiments and sensitivity.
You felt nothing of the world around you, just a shockwave of emotions that coursed through you. Every time you let it out with a wail, the hot and heavy pressure of his arms around you brought you back.
"What can you smell?" he asked. His voice was calm like he had been here before, not surprised or scared of seeing you like this. It wasn't the first time he comforted you from losing a part of yourself.
