Featured Lyrics:

I can't be your love
Look, it's too trivial for you now
Oh my life is fallin' apart
Maybe no one will notice if I disappear

But I'll pray for you all the time
If I could be by your side
I'll give you all my life, my seasons

I can't be your love
'Cause I'm afraid I'll ruin your life
While the leaves withered away and grew again
You have gone far away
I'll be pushing up daisies
And bring all the chances to here

My love

Despite the cold winter air, there was not a single snowflake that fell from the sky. The sky was uncharacteristically blue for a mid-December day. The clouds had parted to allow just a single sunbeam to land on the fresh plot of dirt. It was as if heaven had paved the road for its newest angel.

You felt Eren let go of your hand and he gave you a small, shallow smile. It was one that you recognized. It reminded you of tall walls you had spent a lifetime tearing down. Now on this day, they were back up and taller than before.

You couldn't get a single word in before he began to walk away, consumed by the other guests who shared their sincerest condolences. All you could do was watch and make yourself as small as possible. You brought your other hand back to your elbow, trying to comfort yourself from the warmth that left you. Even your mother and stepfather had made their way to the refreshments table, somehow life was continuing on.

You stood at the gravesite, staring at Carla's photo. Her hair was luscious and dark, her skin playfully pink. The sun was setting behind her and the daisies in her hands were freshly picked. Selfishly, you remembered exactly when and where it was taken.

Her voice was as clear as a birdsong, 'Happy birthday, Y/N! Your mother and I saved up enough money to get you a camera! I hope you take lots of photos and keep lots of memories!'

It had been so long since you touched it's shutter, it somehow captured more of your life than you could even imagine. Somehow, it had a better memory than you.

Guests had gathered to the small reception hall at the funeral home's main building. Despite the clear weather, the air was unkind in being cold. You could hear the sounds of their padded footsteps walking across the snowy field, leaving you alone with the plot. Without the sounds of the crowd, you could finally hear the sound of your breath. There was no telling how shallow it had been all morning.

You gripped your hand around the bag that was slung over your shoulder. Inside was a short letter, a few last words to Carla, an apology and a promise. You rummaged around in your bag, not taking your eyes off her photo. The words you had written repeated over and over again in your mind and you hoped it was enough for her to hear. You kneeled at the headstone, tucking your letter in a small and unassuming crevice.
