Chapter 4-Almost

"Hey Yaz. So, it's me again. Sammy. I'm just calling to make sure you're good, and home. Give me a call back so I know you're alive. Just kidding. But seriously, call me so I know you're alive. Okay, love you, bye!" Sammy rambled before hanging up the phone. That had to be her fiftieth call to Yaz.

I understood how worried she was, but, we would get to Yaz's soon enough, and calling her every five minutes wasn't doing any good. I let out a sigh as Ben drove towards a rest area, finally, I thought. My side had been aching for hours, and unfortunately, all I had with me was my wallet and phone. As much as I hated to admit it, I needed some painkillers if I was going to survive Ben's driving.

"Hey, how are you doing back there?" I heard Sammy ask. I looked up from my phone, "I'm fine. All good," I replied quickly giving her a thumbs up, and a smile before looking down at my phone. Kenji had texted me last night informing me he was going to see his dad, but I hadn't heard from him since. I was starting to get worried, I knew how much he hated the idea of talking to his dad, he had worked hard to get over feeling like his father's legacy was looming over him.

"So, you're just going to use that phone no matter what I say, huh?" I heard Ben ask as Sammy was typing away on her phone. "Thought we'd already established that?" Sammy replied not even looking up from her phone. Ben reached over to grab the phone out of Sammy's hand but the dark-haired girl moved away just in time. "Don't you dare throw my phone out the window, Benjamin," she hissed as she continued to type. "Oh, yeah, Darius warned me," she added, and I couldn't help but giggle, as Ben huffed.

"He is right though Sammy. Whoever is after us could be tracking your phone," I pipped up. "Thank you!" Ben exclaimed before realizing he had just agreed with me. "Well I don't see you throwing your phone out the window," Sammy replied sarcastically. "Oh, this? This is a burner, untraceable. My phone was murdered by a dino earlier this week," I explained, and Sammy rolled her eyes. "Oh my God, you two are way too much alike sometimes," she sighed looking between Ben and me as we pulled into the parking lot.

All three of us looked out at the King Dino's, it was, not the nicest looking place. "I'm hungry too, but really? You wanna stop here for food?" Ben questioned. "This is the only place for miles, and so help me if you try to serve me one more carob anything," Sammy hissed as Ben held out a carob bar. "Sorry. All out of Twibblers," he chuckled. "Yeah. Darius told me about the Twibblers too," Sammy sighed before getting out of the van.

"I'll take that. Thank you," I said snatching the carob bar out of Ben's hands as I crawled out of the van as fast as possible. "Hey!" he exclaimed following me. "Now featuring real Styggies?" Sammy said as she read the sign. "Do you think that's true?" she asked looking over at me, and I shrugged as I opened the carob bar and began nibbling on it. "Anything's possible nowadays," Ben stated as he walked around the van. "Then again they could be Komoda dragons in bald caps," he added before walking away.

"I did have a lady who called DPW once about a giant snapping turtle in her backyard," I muttered. "Seriously?" Sammy exclaimed with a laugh. "Yeah, it was kind of ridiculous," I laughed, as the two of us followed after Ben.

My eyes wandered around the park landing on a familiar shape. I tapped Sammy's shoulder and pointed, her eyes got wide before she pulled on Ben's jacket. "Huh?" he said questioningly, but then he saw it too. It was a gyrosphere, I swear it looked just like the one Brooklynn and Darius had got stuck in. "Wow. That takes me back," Sammy said. "You think it pulls to the right," I chuckled. "I'm getting motion sick just looking at it," Ben added with a smile. Being in that thing with Kenji and Ben had been a nightmare, but I honestly missed it a little.
