Lucas's POV:
The car came to a screeching halt in the vast parking lot of a magnificent building. Dr. Amara stepped out first, and I quickly followed suit. She pointed towards the elevator, and I nodded in understanding. Together, we made our way towards the lift, stepping inside as soon as the doors opened.
Dr. Amara retrieved a small card from her bag, holding it up to a scanner before pressing the button for our floor. We rode in silence as the elevator ascended, the soft hum of its movement the only sound. After a few moments, the lift finally stopped with a ding, and the doors slid open to reveal a grand hallway.
She led the way to a pair of large double doors, pressing her fingerprints to a scanner to unlock them. I followed her into the penthouse, taking in my surroundings with awe.
"Igor, I'm home," she called out loudly, her voice echoing slightly in the spacious room.
The penthouse was straight out of a high-end real estate magazine. The single sofa looked more expensive than my entire house. The grand chandelier hanging from the ceiling was dazzling, casting a warm glow over the tastefully decorated space. Despite the opulence, the place had a comforting, homey feel to it—inviting and peaceful.
As I finished taking in the living room, a huge, imposing figure descended the staircase. The man was more than six feet tall with a massive build. His shoulder-length hair was neatly tied into a small ponytail, with two strands falling in front of his face. A prominent scar ran from his eyebrow to his cheek, partially hidden by his trimmed beard.
His presence was commanding, exuding an air of danger and authority. He carried himself with the confidence of a king. Despite his intimidating appearance, there was an air of controlled power about him, as if he could unleash havoc at any moment but chose not to.
He approached me, extending a hand. His deep, masculine voice resonated as he introduced himself. "Igor Mikhailov."
I immediately shook his hand, trying to convey the respect I felt. "Lucas Miller, sir," I responded, my voice steady despite the nervous flutter in my stomach.
Igor's grip was firm, and his gaze was penetrating, as if he was assessing my worth in those few seconds. "Welcome, Lucas," he said, releasing my hand. "Amara has told me about you."
Dr. Amara smiled warmly, stepping closer to Igor. "Lucas, Igor is my husband. He's the man who can help you."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir," I said, feeling a bit more at ease under their combined gazes.
Igor nodded, his expression softening slightly. "Likewise. Any friend of my wife is a friend of mine."
As I stood there, absorbing the gravity of the moment, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. Will this meeting go as I am hoping? Will the help I receive be enough for my family's safety?
Dr. Amara motioned for me to follow her further into the penthouse. "Come, Lucas. There's much to discuss, and I'm sure you have many questions."
I followed them through a corridor lined with exquisite artwork, leading to a spacious study. The room was filled with bookshelves, a large mahogany desk, and comfortable seating. Igor took a seat behind the desk, while Dr. Amara and I settled into the chairs facing him.
