She flung herself against the bars.
She had to get out, no matter the pain nor the cost.
Her memories slowly slipped away to darkness like raindrops disappearing into a lake. One by one, her identity was stolen. Sobs ricocheted off the enclosed space, ripping out of her throat painfully.
Whether or not she managed to break the bars which held her prisoner, there was nowhere else to go. The metal cage sped upwards at an alarming rate, sending the passengers blood racing into their head with painful force. More walls were mere inches beyond the cage. A path up as far as the eagle eye can see.
The girl banged on the bars, incoherent screams of frustration and anger fading into the isolated box. She knew there was nothing she could do to get out, besides the way they wanted her to.
This wasn't the plan.
Her vision started to blur, her legs wobbled like her favorite blue Jello, she used to steal from the pantry's with.. the faces were all scratched out, names lost.
She felt herself begin to sink into the floor, hands dragging along the bars as she tried to hold her weight. Coldness washed over her mind.
The sedative was kicking in.
The girl gripped the bars tighter, trying to haul herself up in one last useless attempt to escape this nightmare. She knew nothing could stop the events from preceding, she knew she couldn't escape. She knew this because she created this contraption. She knew where it led, the doom that awaited her with false smiles, saying it could save humanity. She let out a dry laugh. As if.
Her thoughts were running in circles.
Trying not to forget herself, though they wanted her to. Just a variable. That's all she was to them.
Her muscles tightened suddenly, causing her grip on the bars to falter.
She slipped and crumpled onto the metal ground. Her head hit the floor, pain ripping through her skull at the impact. A single and final tear trickled down her bruising cheek.
Red lights flashed, signaling her inevitable future.
Before the girl lost herself for good, one last thought filled her mind. Dark as blood, true as the sun rising each day.
She shut her eyes tightly.
They tricked me. They tricked us all.
