The world was big, and every second in it I began to feel smaller and smaller. I was supposed to feel guilt, or perhaps fear. That's what Kuina felt, I could see it on her face, twisted up into a frown, eyes closed to avoid crying. But I couldn't care in the same way she did.
"Miss Akoto?" My head turned at the use of my last name, a dreaded, ugly thing.
I turned to look at Kuina once more, before chancing a glance towards the other corner of the room where a girl with unevenly chopped hair sat, her eyes never leaving my form while she gave a very intimidating glare.
"Miss Akoto." The woman demanded once more, my eyes turning to her own, narrowed and cruel. "You can go in, the principal wants to speak with you."
I rolled my eyes and shrugged, walking into the room with confidence. They wanted me to be nervous and dejected, prepared to plead my case and beg for forgiveness like a dog.
I would do no such thing.
The man behind the desk looked at me with an unimpressed glare, crossing his arms over the table and rubbing his knuckles.
"Akoto. What was the one thing I asked of you?"
"Don't cause trouble." I answered, purposely looking down at my nails and keeping my voice nice and bored. It was a delight to see his annoyed face.
"And what did you do?"
I raised a brow, looking out the window in his office to see the park outside. I rubbed my tongue along the roof of my mouth to draw out my response before shrugging. "I gave a girl a haircut. That's not trouble. That's saving money."
"Alright, that's enough, I'm calling your parents," he grumbled, his hand hovering over the landline on his desk, eyes watching me, waiting for me to protest.
With an annoyed sigh I raised my hands and picked the phone up and began dialing my mom's number.
"What are you doing?" He asked, attempting to take the phone from me.
"You were taking too long. Check the screen, you'll see it's my parents." I watched impatiently as he did so, and felt an ugly satisfaction when he realized I was right. He listened begrudgingly while the annoying phone ringing sound was made. After at least a minute it finally stopped.
"Leave a message if you want," I said, talking over the automated voicemail procedure. "She won't see it."
He quickly leaned over, snatching the phone from me and pressed one, instantly putting on his more professional tone.
"Hello Miss Akoto, I'm the principal at Yokosuka Middle School-"
"The school your daughter goes to," I loudly informed, smirking at the glare I received from the principal. "What, she probably forgot."
He cleared his throat in an attempt to seem more professional, and sat straighter in his chair. "Unfortunately there's been an incident, in which your daughter, unprovoked-"
"If you call pouring water on my notes unprovoked-"
"Unprovoked," the man emphasized once more. "Cut another girl's hair short in a form of bullying. Please call back as soon as you get this."
He hit a button and a loud beeping sound was heard before the room went silent. In the next few seconds I was met with a look that would wither cacti. Thankfully I didn't have quills.
"So, do you want to call my dad, see if his commander lets him answer, or are we good here?"
"Miss Akoto-"
