"Then this is the on call room." A nurse bites her nail while I could assume she is unashamedly mentally undressing me with how her eyes sweep over me continually.Thank the dark night that scrubs easily hide most of my body besides my arms but the doctors coat helps to hide those muscles. It is the very first day at this job and the fact not even a full two hours in before already being hit on or at least those are the cues this nurse is giving.
I clear my throat. "Thank you, but I don't use on-call rooms to rest."
"Oh, they can be used for much more than resting."
I give a tight smile. "Thank you for the tour."
"My pleasure." She walks by and leaves her hand out but I flinch back. Rather not have her drooled finger nail running over my clothes.
A slow hand clap sounds to my side and I see Samuel. "Nicely handled, though I give it a two on facial expression not staying neutral and the sudden flinching." He smirks.
I chuckle and smirk. "What are you doing here?" He pats my back.
He shrugs. "Nalle had an appointment and I thought I stop in to see how it was going which is how I got to see the ending of that total horrid scene of flirting being drained."
"Barely at the two hour mark and a nurse wanting to sink claws in. I prefer keeping the workplace just that a workplace."
Samuel chuckles. "Less drama that way."
I nod. "Time to get to the emergency room and begin the actual work."
"Go save lives." Samuel smirks and pats my back.
I turn and walk down the hallways until I reached the doctors doors for the emergency room and meet the supervisor of sorts to get my area to work within since I have gotten into my scrubs along with received my weeks worth, locker, and then the nurse gave me the tour.
My knuckles knock on the door and the supervisor looks up. "Jade. How was the tour? I do apologize for not being able to give it myself."
I wave him off in understanding he has much to do as the main doctor over the floor. "The tour was satisfactory."
He chuckles. "Sasha a bit forward?"
I clear my throat. "Area I am to work?"
Rodney shows me the section to work and how if one doctor gets full and others have time we all pitch in to help. The atmosphere more relaxed and friendly here with the doctors than the previous hospital I had worked at during residency. Just from the tour, I could tell there doesn't seem to be a rift behind nurses and doctors either.
Work begins as the nurse hands me a tablet and I begin going over a new patient that just came in. I walk within the room and speak with the patient as my mind turns into the work side of being a doctor.
Time passes quickly and another nurse comes up. "Patient in room seven is discharged."
"Thanks." I nod and type away on the tablet to finish the report on another patient. Once I am finished, the nurse prints off papers and goes to discharge another patient across the emergency room that I had took to help a fellow doctor.
With a glance at my watch, I walk to the break room and retrieve my lunch box. Sometimes waiting for results from a test is the worst with the length of wait times. I eat my sandwich quickly and read over a medical article since I am waiting on results.
"Doctor?"
I turn and it's the one that gave me the tour. "Yes?"
"Doctor Falburer is wondering if you could assist him on a patient case?"
"Of course." I get up and close out of the medical article as my feet follow the nurse down the hall to the patient room.
They say keep a neutral face and don't react.
That is a bit harsh to do when you see a patient sitting up waving at everyone that comes in the room with a spork sticking out of his cheek like it was just another day. The small shock ends quickly and I get into conversation with the woman holding the mans hand as the other doctor exams the area of skin around the object.
"How did this happen?" I frown and look over the chart to add to the details.
"He just passed out while we were eating and it happened."
"Good news is there doesn't seem to be any extensive damage to the tissue around the injury." Doctor Falburer speaks up. "I can numb this and remove it with ease."
He gets to it with the patients consent. I turn to the lady once more. "Has there been a history of fainting before this event?"
She shakes her head. "No but he kept saying he had a headache and took some over the counter medicine for it."
I nod. "Once we get the fork removed then we will run a couple tests to see what could have caused the fainting event."
She nods and then moves to hold his hand once more. Just as I step around the bed and place on gloves to assist in the stitching portion, I notice the lady start to wobble just as the fork is being slowly pulled out. "Ma'am why don't you have a sit?" I offer and my feet move back around the bed, catching her just as her eyes closed.
I get her sat in the chair and hold a vomit bag by her mouth. "Deep breaths." She nods and doesn't look back to her spouse.
Within time, the other doctor and I are walking from the room. "Let's get a CT of his head and run a series of labs." I look to the other doctor and he nods.
The nurse goes into the room and I walk to the large area for medical staff to sit.
"So you just got out of residency?" Flaburer speaks up and I nod. "Heard you finished early." I look over to see his smirk.
"I did."
We chat a bit more as we finish the chart and wait for results.
"The patient has to be admitted." Flaburer comes up and I look at the chart with a nod.
"A overnight stay to get hydrated will help." The patient was severely dehydrated which seems to be the cause of the fainting spell.
By the end of my shift, I walk to the area where my locker is and change from the scrubs. I grab my keys and walk to my car, driving to the school making it right as Blaze comes out of the schools front door. He runs over and gets in buckling his seatbelt.
"How was school?" I turn and see his wide smile. I listen to how his day was as I drive us home with my son happy and explaining his class to me.
