chapter 5: If Only

After performing in front of their school Friday, it was finally time for the weekend.

Jade was sitting in her room writing music when Reggie popped in right next to her.

Jade let out a squeal as she fell off her bed.

"Reggie! Knock next time, you scared the crap out of me!" Jade scolded as she climbed back onto her bed.

Reggie threw up his hands in surrender as an amused smile made its way on his face.

"Sorry." he apologized, still smiling

"What are you doing here anyways?"

"Luke and Julie are in the studio writing music and I got bored." Reggie responded

Jade hummed in understanding before turning her head back to her work.

"Whatcha working on?"

"Just a song I've been writing. Ever since we sang on that stage the lyrics have just been pouring out."

Reggie leaned over her shoulder, " 'If Only', what's it about?"

More like who is it about.

Jade glanced at Reggie before looking back at her song quickly, hoping he couldn't see the blush forming on her face.

"No one. It's uh.. just a song." Jade replied, trying to be convincing. Luckily for her Reggie was too oblivious and didn't seem to notice.

"Do you think you could sing it for me?"

"Oh...uh sure." Jade grabbed her keyboard and sat down. Not only had she never played this song before, but Reggie's presence also wasn't helping.

Jade took in a shaky breath before she began playing the song,

A million thoughts in my head
Should I let my heart keep listening?

Reggie studied her face closely, watching how her eyes closed briefly before opening again.

I can't decide what's wrong, what's right?
Which way should I go?
If only I knew what my heart was telling me
Don't know what I'm feeling, is this just a dream?

If only I could read the signs in front of me
I could find the way to who I'm meant to be

Every step, every word

I can't decide what's wrong, what's right?
Which way should I go?

Reggie looked at Jade and began singing with her.

[Jade & Reggie]
If only I knew what my heart was telling me
Don't know what I'm feeling, is this just a dream?

Jade looked up at Reggie and found him already staring at her. They continued to sing, their eyes never leaving each others

[Jade & Reggie]
If only I could read the signs in front of me
I could find a way to who I'm meant to be
Ah-oh
If only, yeah

[Jade]
Am I crazy?
Maybe we could happen, yeah
Will you still be with me
When the magic's all run out?

Jade took a breath and turned away, breaking eye contact with Reggie as she started playing the piano again.
