"Come closer.""What, you want me to fall to my death?" Retorted the younger female, a shadow of a scowl on her face. This earned her an amused chuckle and a knowing look in return.Minjeong had learned to decipher what that look meant over the year, and the next thing she knew, it was another defeat she'd conceded.
Begrudgingly, Minjeong pulled herself up with her arms, and sat on the branch leaning against the tree next to Jimin.
They were about ten feet off the ground, covered by the thick, dense leaves of the maple tree. Minjeong could barely see the grass beneath them, nor could she see past the blaring auburn of the maple leaves. Everywhere she turned, she andJimin were shrouded-concealed and hidden from the rest of the park, and therefore, the world.
Like our own private little universe.
The thought made the younger bite herlips just to refrain from smiling. However, the older girl, much to her dismay, had always been quick to catch onto her —never a moment for her to win the chase. Sometimes, Minejong wondered if she was truly that easy to read.
An arm comfortably snaked itself around her waist, pulling her securely flush against Jimin's side. "What are you thinking about?"
"Hm. Nothing you need to know." She chimed, looking away. This time, Minjeong was desperate for Jimin to let go of the conversation. She'd rather talk about their mundane lives, the maple leaves, the weather, Jimin's dirty shoes-anything. How could she possibly tell her best friend to her face that just now she thought of kissing her?
Instead, what she was rewarded with was a low snicker and a peck to her forehead. "You realise that it's written in bright yellow letters on your face whenever you have a thought and it's about me, right?"
A weak punch was thrown at her chest. "Shut up, you just like to tease me!"
Then, Jimin did his annoying eyebrow raise and sly smirk, emitting a 'hm?' as she pressed their foreheads together. Minjeong could only let out a defeated whimper before the older girl planted a chaste kiss on the tip of her nose. "Anyway, tomorrow's our first day of high school."
At the mention, Minjeong's entire body slouched in a way Jimin knew was the opposite of comfort. "I'm not looking forward to it." She mumbled, lips curling into a small pout as she rested her head on the other's shoulder, to which Jimin responded to by resting her head on top of hers. The action felt so natural, neither of them questioned it. "We don't have all our classes together. At some point, you'll have to make a new friend that isn't me, you know?"
Minjeong scoffed before Jimin was even able to finish her sentence. "That's so stupid. Why would I need new friends when you're right here?" Her nose scrunched up, a display of her displeasure that Jimin only interpreted as immensely endearing. "As long as I have you, I don't need anybody else."
"Min, that's not how it works, silly." Jimin laughed, ruffling her hair. "You can't be with me for the rest of your life."
And this made Minjeong sit up, pulling away from their snuggly position. She stared at the elder straight on, and the hardened look in her eyes slightly took Jimin back.
"And why can't I? As long as you're still here and I'm still here-and we still have each other, I don't care if the end of my life is today or tomorrow. Now stop trying to make me talk to other people." She was crossing his arms now, hugging them to her chest like a rebellious child —well, she was still one.
Underneath her breath, she mumbled. "If it's not you, I don't like them." Then, she turned away. For a brief moment, Jimindidn't respond. Her childish outburst was met with silence, and Minejong's ears began to burn. Was I being too much?
