Juvia didn't know exactly how she could go from insanely happy to murderous to terrified, all in the space of ten minutes, but it was somehow proven that night.
After a day watching her beloved show off his power in the guild hall obliterating all his opponents (even though he did end up with a portion of the injuries himself), she was ready for a careful night of Gray watching. (She still wondered why he'd taken to showing off for her. She would love him regardless; silly Gray-sama.)
That was, until she found out that he was staying over Lucy's house that night.
Love rival, Juvia fumed, pacing around her room in Fairy Hills.
Collapsing on her bed, Juvia scooped up a stray Gray-sama plushie and hugged it tightly to her chest, practically suffocating the toy in her massive bosom. She pouted over the top of the plushie and rocked backwards on the bed, falling onto her back and staring at the pale blue canopy.
'Why does Gray-sama never accept Juvia's love?' she wondered miserably. A thought struck her and she gasped, 'Is Gray-sama attempting to make Juvia jealous by staying at love rival's house?'
The conspiracy theory fuelled the water mages wild imagination for a further quarter of an hour as she imagined what the two of them could be doing over there. Steam erupted from her ears and her face turned an angry red. She bit onto a pillow to stop from screaming; her neighbours wouldn't appreciate it.
'Tch,' Juvia crossed her arms, the Gray-sama plush toy caught in the angry gesture. 'Love rival better stay away from Juvia's Gray-sama.'
Standing up and placing the plushie back on the bed neatly at the headboard, Juvia thought aloud, 'Would anyone mind if Juvia were to put love rival in a water lock for a few days?'
Entertaining the thought momentarily, Juvia soon dismissed the notion with a sigh and a slight head shake.
'No,' she relented. 'Juvia may hate love rival for chasing Gray-sama, but Juvia could never hurt Lucy-san.' Juvia closed her eyes dramatically, 'After all, Juvia can't blame her for falling in love with Gray-sama.'
Knock, knock, knock.
Juvia turned to the door, a little surprised as to who would be coming to visit her at such a late hour. She glanced down at her attire; a long blue nightgown. She brushed off the skirt to ensure she was presentable before crossing the room. Grabbing the cold doorknob, she twisted and tugged open the door.
A young redhead in purple pyjamas stood on the other side.
'Erza-san!' Juvia blinked. 'What are you doing here?'
'Excuse me, Juvia,' Erza apologised politely. 'I was downstairs when I heard someone banging on the front door. When I opened it, a man in a cloak was there. He handed me this letter and fled before I could say a word.'
The requip mage extended her hand towards Juvia, and in it lay a small, carefully sealed envelope. The writing scrawled across the front was cursive and difficult to read, yet was somehow familiar. The five letters read Juvia.
'A letter to Juvia?' the blue haired girl wondered in disbelief, taking the envelope from Erza. She turned it over and scrutinized it as if there may be a hidden inscription.
'I haven't read it,' Erza promised. 'That would be rude. If there's a problem, you know where to find me.'
Bidding Juvia a brisk goodnight, Erza retreated back to her residence. Juvia called a distracted 'Thank you, Erza-san!' to which the redhead replied with a wave and disappeared around a corner, leaving the water mage to linger in her doorway, staring at the letter with an intense curiosity.
