The one with Marjorie's family (Edited 23/12/24)

A.N: just a short chapter today so I can trying and get this fic up and running again

Marjorie quietly drove through the streets towards her mother and step father's house, trying to emotionally prepare herself for all the unneeded criticism about her life. Being manager of a nursery would never be enough for them especially because she thirty-five. She was expected to have already been married, and to have kids. She always dreamed to have fallen in love with someone, and to live her own rom-com style life, but she was never that lucky. Now all she'll get was her family explaining how much of a failure of a Van-Gould she is.

"You have reached your destination." Her gps said, as Marjorie felt her heart drop. I can't do this... She slowly got out of her car and walked towards the door to the house.

"Marjorie!" A voice exclaimed, causing her to jump out of her skin. Once she turned around to where the voice was coming from. Realising it was her mother, she was given no time to emotionally prepare for all the unneeded criticism.

"Hello mother." She quietly replied.

As soon as she entered the house she noticed how this was not just a family dinner with her mother and step father, it was also her step father's parents and siblings. People who were all very successful, rich, and married.

"Marjorie how has things been?" One of her step-grandparents asked, as Marjroie sat down at the dining room table.

"Things have been okay..." Marjorie said, wondering when the criticism would start.

"Got a boyfriend yet?" Another asked as Marjorie rolled her eyes. There it is...

"Nope."

Winter gently reached for his phone, trying not to accidentally wake up Autumn. It had been hours since he learnt how Autumn hadn't been able to sleep, and hour's since she fell asleep against his shoulder. As he picked up his phone he realised that it was now lunchtime. He glanced back down to Autumn concerned that if he tried to get up that it would wake her up or startle her.

As autumn started to wake up, she slowly sat up without realizing that someone else was there. "Are you feeling better Autumn?" A familiar voice asked giving her a fright. "Sorry, did I scare you!"

She glanced over realizing that Winter was still in her house with her. "It's okay Winter." She replied as she looked into his eyes,noticing how concerned he looked. "Did I uhh... fall asleep on you?"

"Yes..." Winter answered as he saw Autumn's face grow increasingly more embarrassed and awkward. "Hey Aut... umn, it's completely okay."

"Do you want to get some lunch?" Autumn asked, as winter gave her a smile. "I can order us in a Pizza."

Marjorie gave her family an unamused look after hearing how much of a 'Failure' she was. "Marjorie come on, you: live in a two bedroom flat, have no boyfriend, have no kids, you're struggling financially..."

"But that doesn't matter to me..." Marjorie answered, trying to hide her shaky breathing. "Yes it would be nice to have had a pay-rise. But I'm happy."

"That's not good enough though?" Her mother replied, as Marjorie quickly got up from her chair and stormed out of the house. Once she got into her car she felt her eyes well up with tears.

But as she managed to compose herself she drove out of the driveway. Why can't my family be decent people? She thought to herself as she drove towards the nursery.
