Gregor felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. He was still wrapping his mind around this impossible fact that Ripred had told him. Twitchtip, was alive? Was it even possible? The rats had sent messages in their infamous Code of Claw saying that she'd died!
"It seems that she had faked her death by putting the rotting carcasses of other dead creatures on herself and faking suffocation, which made the already very busy gnawer guards of her pit believe she was dead without bothering to check her heartbeat. They through her into the deadlands and reported her death. But Twitchtip ran away, much deepter into the deadlands and managed to survive, where she fed on the carcasses of dead creatures from battle and occasionally fresh fish from the rivers." Ripred paused. "But her injuries were very bad, slash wounds from veins can bleed out and get infected. When we found her, she was very weak." He looked at Gregor again. "But she will recover once the doctors of Regalia do their thing on her."
"Can I see her?" Gregor asked immediately after Ripred had finished.
"No Gregor," Luxa said, "She is very weak and is now unconscious from medicine. But she will recover, if not her full strength, then at least her sense of smell." At Luxa's words, Gregor was reminded of how powerful Twitchtip's nose was. In Ripred's words, "Her sense of smell is so strong that she can even detect color." He felt very happy, giddy even, at the news of the survival of Twitchtip, the only rat he'd ever felt any true loving emotions to. Well, the only rat apart from Ripred and...
"Hey!" He said, suddenly realizing he'd forgotten someone very important as well, "Where's Lapblood? Shouldn't she be a representative of the rats?"
"Lapblood was injured," Luxa answered, "she led a group of Gnawers into the Vineyard of Eyes, and got into some trouble with the local plants. None of the Gnawers were killed, but when they escaped, many were baring wounds, including Lapblood, and she was injured very badly, since one of the vines latched onto her leg, and fractured the bone. She will have to recover for a few weeks at least to regain mobility again."
Gregor felt cold fear trickle down his back. "But what was she doing in the Vineyard of Eyes?" He asked, "I mean, we all know that place is dangerous, and she even lost Mange there."
Luxa considered for a moment, then replied: "I'll let Vikus explain, it has to do with a few ideas we've had on the Prophecy of Mysteries. Right now, the council and I have to discuss further plans of attacking the Cutters." She turned, and strolled quickly down the corridor and out of sight.
"Come Gregor," Vikus said, "Let us proceed to the prophecy room." Ripred and the others left, following Luxa, and Vikus led Gregor the other way, towards the prophecy room.
