Samantha's POV
The city of Monaco sparkles like a diamond under the inky velvet of the night sky. Its opulence attracts the who's who of the world, and tonight, its allure has drawn me back into a world I thought I had left behind. I never really live here in Monaco. I just lived occasionally with Lando. It is my first time in Monaco again after two months. I have to attend the APM Monaco event tomorrow. The occasion isn't some glamorous event or an exclusive gathering—it's a meeting that holds the weight of the past and the uncertainty of the future.
My heart races with every step I take toward the luxurious rooftop bar. When I got there, I ordered red wine. As the city lights reflected off my wine glass, casting a kaleidoscope of memories and emotions.
The rooftop bar is a sanctuary of sophistication, overlooking the dazzling lights of Monaco. I feel a familiar pang of nostalgia as I exit the terrace. The view is breathtaking, but my focus is singular—Lando.
"I never thought I'd see you here," I said, my voice steady but my eyes betraying the whirlwind of emotions.
Lando's face is a mask of calm, but his eyes flicker with something I can't quite place. "Fate has a funny way of bringing people back together, doesn't it?"
A bitter smile tugged at my lips. The irony isn't lost on me. We are in one of the most beautiful places on earth, yet the air between them crackles with unresolved tension.
"Do you ever wonder what could have been if things had turned out differently between us?" My question hangs in the air, heavy and poignant.
Lando looks away momentarily, his gaze lost in the twinkling lights below. "Not a day goes by that I don't think about it, Sam. But life... life had other plans for us."
Our conversation ebbs and flows like the tide, filled with moments of raw honesty and painful reflection. We were curious about each other and decided not to argue this time. We talked and listened about our careers and the choices that led us to where we are now.
But inevitably, the topic circles back to Rachel Anderson—the woman who had been the wedge in our love story. The person I trusted the most, even before Lando came into my life.
"I was stupid," Lando admits, his voice cracking. "Rachel meant nothing to me. It was a mistake I regret more than you can imagine."
I felt a pang in her chest. The wound is still fresh and not forgotten. "I don't know if I can ever forgive you, Lando. The betrayal—it changed everything."
Before Lando can respond, his phone buzzes, breaking the fragile bubble of their conversation. He glances at the screen, his expression turning serious.
"It's Rachel," he mutters, his voice tinged with frustration. "She says it's uhm.. an emergency."
A flicker of anger flares up on me. "Of course, it's always with her, right?"
Lando looks torn, his eyes pleading for understanding. "I need to see what's going on. But Samantha, this—us—it's not over. Not yet."
As Lando walked away to deal with Rachel's so-called emergency, I stood alone on the rooftop, the city of Monaco stretching out before me. The night wind whispers secrets, and I am left to ponder the fragile connection that still exists between me and Lando.
