"'Cause all of the small things that you do. It is what reminds me why I fell for you. And when we're apart, and I'm missing you" THOSE EYES - New West

Samantha's POV

For the past few weeks of reconnecting, understanding, and supporting each other, Lando and I had been closer than ever. Lando's career as a McLaren Driver became more recognizable, and his performance became so. Meanwhile, I was going to have my last photoshoot before going to Switzerland for my medication and trying to stay away from the media as soon as possible.

"Sam, I have a bad feeling about this photoshoot of yours," Caroline said while helping me fix the things I would bring.

"Don't be nervous, Caro. I'll be fine. Besides, I will tell Denise if I ever get tired," I smiled, and she shook her head.

"Call me if you ever feel something, okay?" She said, and I nodded. I noticed my phone vibrating on my nightstand and immediately picked it up. Lando was calling. He was in Australia for the Grand Prix. He invited me to go with him, but I refused, and I haven't told him about my illness.

"Hey, love. I'm at Daniel's right now. How are you?" He asked, and I once again found myself smiling.

"I'm doing alright, just getting ready for my photoshoot," I replied, trying to keep my tone light despite a heaviness in my chest.

"You'll crush it; I know you will. You always do," he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. It warmed me, even as doubts began to creep in.

"Thanks, Lando. I'll send you some behind-the-scenes pics," I promised, knowing how much he appreciated those little glimpses into my world.

"Definitely. I wish I could be there with you," he said, and a hint of longing in his tone made my heart ache.

"I know, but you have a race to focus on. Just think about that trophy waiting for you," I encouraged, imagining him behind the wheel, adrenaline coursing through his veins.

He chuckled, the sound brightening my mood. "You're right. But hey, once I get back, we're going to celebrate. Just the two of us."

"Absolutely! I can't wait," I replied, feeling excitement amidst the anxiety about my upcoming trip.

Our conversation shifted to lighter topics, discussing his practice laps and the teasing banter between him and Daniel. It was a welcome distraction, and for those precious moments, I could almost forget the impending storm that loomed over my health.

As he wrapped up, he said, "Take care of yourself, Sam. Call me if you need anything, alright?"

"I will. Promise," I said, though the truth felt heavier in my chest. I flashed a quick smile at Caroline, who was pretending to be engrossed in organizing my things but was eavesdropping.

After hanging up, I let out a sigh. "You know, he makes it hard to stay focused on the challenge ahead," I confessed to Caroline, who nodded empathetically.

"Love like that can be a distraction, but it can also be your strength," she said wisely.

"Just make sure you're taking care of yourself first."

I agreed, knowing I had to keep my head in the game. But despite my best efforts, I couldn't shake the worry that loomed. I glanced at the clock, feeling the ticking reminder that soon my life would pause, thrusting me into a new reality I wasn't fully ready to face.
