Two.
Hisoka was growing bored as Chrollo still wasn't back yet and he didn't have a TV in his apartment for whatever reason. The lounge was only occupied by the couch and a row of bookshelves were covering the wall where his source of entertainment would have been so Hisoka decided to take one of the books and read it.
Many of them were non-fiction and focused on history so Hisoka quickly grew bored of them, placing them back on the shelf. He ended up organising the whole unit as there was nothing better he could do, hopefully Chrollo wouldn't mind it too much.
After a few minutes, the redhead explored the penthouse and opened every door that was unlocked. He managed to stumble upon Chrollo's bedroom which had a very sleek minimalist style that Hisoka had expected. A part of him was curious and was about to walk in before remembering his warning:
"Do not, under any circumstances, go through my things."
Hisoka didn't want to misbehave on his first day so he quickly closed the door and just in time too. The front door opened to reveal Chrollo who had his usual cold expression. Lucilfer barely noticed the redhead who was walking away from his bedroom door.
"How was your day?" Hisoka asked as the dark-haired man sat on the large sofa, walking to stand behind him.
Chrollo turned to meet his eyes, his hair moving to reveal the tattoo on his forehead. "It was alright, how about yours?" He received a sheepish shrug in reply and Lucilfer smiled gently. "I guess there isn't much to do."
"Yeah," Hisoka mumbled, blushing when a hand patted down his red locks. The affection was nice yet unexpected. He cleared his throat and stood up straight, Chrollo looking at him curiously. "Do you want me to cook dinner?"
"If you want to," he merely replied, gray eyes looking at him dismissively. "I'll be out on the balcony if you need any help."
Hisoka watched as he opened the large glass doors and pulled a cigarette and light from his pocket. He finally broke his attention away from him and towards the kitchen, deciding to cook something simple so as to not burn it down. Maybe some pasta will be good?
When he got the ingredients together, he started cooking and glanced over Chrollo once in a while to see him talking on the phone each time. Hisoka didn't have a phone nor has he ever owned one so he wondered if it would be too forward of him to ask for one.
He decided to ignore the thought and focus on the task he had started, making sure not to burn the sauce that was simmering on the stove. The girls back at the club are the ones who had taught him to make several recipes but he'd never gotten the chance to make good use of them while he was there. Hisoka was glad that he wasn't working there anymore but he did miss the friendship he had with his co-workers.
It took a few more minutes until he was done and Hisoka used up a bit more time to clean up since Chrollo was still on the phone. He couldn't help but wonder who he was talking to...
Lucilfer was pacing around the balcony, cigarette still in hand as he spoke into the phone, an annoyed expression on his face. Chrollo turned his head to see that Hisoka was already cleaning up and the two of them accidentally made eye contact, the redhead looking away with a flushed face.
The Troupe leader ended the call, snuffing out the cigarette under his foot after releasing a final puff of smoke. He let the brush against his face to get rid of the smell before proceeding to walk back inside. "Do you need any help?"
"You can help plate but it's okay, I'm almost done," Hisoka said nervously, taking two plates from the cupboard. The plates were suddenly taken from his hands when he turned around, a hand on his back guiding him out of the kitchen.
"How about you go set up the table instead? You've already done a lot," Chrollo said in a hushed voice.
Hisoka turned to look at him, realising how close their bodies were. "I, um, okay..." He placed all of the cutlery at the table and Lucilfer came in with the steaming plates, placing them down in front of their respective seats.
They began to eat together in silence, Hisoka picking at his food. It was just so awkward between them and hoped with time the feeling would eventually go away.
"Do you not like your own cooking?"
"No, it's not that. I wanted to ask what you do for a living?"
"Why?"
Hisoka felt his ears heat up in frustration as Chrollo seemed to avoid the question. "Because we live together and I'm curious about how you could afford to pay my old boss. He's not really the kind you'd call 'cheap'," he explained, putting a fork of spaghetti into his mouth.
Lucilfer smiled at him but Hisoka couldn't tell if it stemmed from genuine feelings or annoyance. "Just know that I own a business and it's not very... legal I guess you could say. Which is why I'd rather you don't involve yourself in it."
"I understand." The redhead wasn't really shocked by that reply and continued to eat. When they were done with their meals, they washed up together and Hisoka put the leftovers in the fridge, turning to look at Chrollo who was drying his hands. "Am I going to spend the night with you?"
The other man raised a brow, watching as he squirmed under his gaze. He walked closer to him until the redhead was cornered against the end of the counter. "Do you want me to spend the night with you," he asked huskily, his voice causing Hisoka to blush.
"I don't..." Hisoka trailed off, breaking eye contact as his heart began to beat faster. The idea of sleeping with someone he was attracted to felt a lot more intimidating than he realised. "I don't know."
"You're cute," Chrollo said teasingly before pushing himself away and walking towards his bedroom. "And I'm taking you shopping tomorrow so make sure to go to bed early."
"Yes, Sir." A groan of embarrassment left his mouth once he heard Chrollo's bedroom door shut. Hisoka walked to his own room and got into bed, his eyes feeling heavy as soon as he placed his head on the pillow.
Was he always this tired?
The thought quickly left his mind as a few seconds later, he was already asleep.
