THE DEATH OF MIND
~ Bad Omens

Flame

I'm sitting in my office at the club, surrounded by piles of paperwork that demand my attention. But my thoughts are everywhere but on my tasks. The blaring of the music from downstairs doesn't help with my headache either. Today, ten years ago to the day, my mother died, and the memories of those horrible events flood my thoughts, as if I were drowning. I stare back at the papers in front of me, my thoughts wander back to that night ten years ago. The screams, the laughter of those bastards. The disgusting feeling of my helplessness. I clench my hands into fists, my knuckles turn white. The anger I've felt since this morning is growing, the day itself, it's one big shitshow, from this morning until now. My gaze wanders to the framed picture of my mother that stands on my desk. After all these years, her death still hurts. I sigh deeply and turn one of the rings on my fingers, Infierno sangriento. And as if the day couldn't get any worse, my cell phone rings. Which motherfucker wants something from me now? My mood sinks even further when I see Dagger's name on the caller ID, Mierda what does he want now? For a moment I think about just letting it ring. But Dagger only calls me when it's important. I take another deep breath to calm myself down. Before I answer the call, "you should have a damn important reason to disturb me today, Cábron" I say seriously, Dagger laughs. This wanker, "Save the threats, Flame, you won't impress me with that, and you know it. But it's really significant, I wouldn't call you otherwise. " He explains to me, his voice a little raspy. As if he'd been awake all night, "then spit it out..." comes over my lips.

Dagger stays quiet for a moment until I hear him yawn. So the bastard really was awake all night. "Your father wanted me to background check someone" he explains to me, I roll my eyes annoyed. "Isn't that your job?" I ask, suppressing an annoyed undertone. "Yes, but this time it's about someone you know, you know him pretty good" Dagger says cryptically, now I've had enough. "Dagger... talk, what's going on? Has he been looking into Teros background or something?" I ask annoyed, "no, it's not about your sister's boyfriend, it's more about your boyfriend" he says, I furrow my eyebrows. Does he mean Snow? "Do you mean Aiden?" I ask, hoping I've misheard, "yes. The cute white-haired one with the nice ass, your father wanted a full background check. And damn, the little one really had a impressive past." Dagger explains, anger eating its way up my insides. "Mail me what you have, I'll talk to my father myself." I say before I hang up. Without letting Dagger say anything else. When the email comes, I print it out and read it through. I laugh dryly, that old bastard. He really has the nerve to do all this behind my back. I clench my jaw, fuck, I could behead him right now. Cursing quietly, I get up, grab the papers from Snow and storm out of my office. The papers firmly in my hand, the anger inside me, drives every step I take, what is my father actually thinking? The sound of my heavy footsteps echoes through the empty corridor. When I reach his office door, I pause for a moment and take a deep breath. So that I don't rip the door off its hinges. After a few moments, I push the door open without knocking. My blood is boiling, and I know that it won't be long before I'm going to explode.

My eyes narrow when I see him sitting behind his desk with a smug smile. "What the hell is that, old man?" I slam the papers onto his desk with a dark growl. The smile that was on my father's lips until now disappears. "Ah, Flame. What brings you here?", he tries to keep his composure. But I've watched him long enough over the years to know, that he's surprised. I lean forward and slam my hands on the desk. "Don't play dumb. You asked Dagger to do a damn background check on Snow. What the hell are you going to do with it?" I ask, growling, my father plays innocent. "I was just worried about your safety, Hijo. Snow is new in town and I wanted to make sure he wasn't involved in anything that could harm you or Sophia. Or the gang." I laugh bitter sarcastically. "Concerned about our safety? Is that what you call it? Where was that concern when Mom needed it? Or do you just forget what happened to her?", I ask angrily, my chest burning with anger. Killing my father sounds tempting right now, "Don't worry, father. I already know everything about Snow, we've talked about everything. I trust him more than anyone else, and I won't let you make up something to make him look bad. Stay out of my life, like you have for the last ten years." I growl, my father slams his fist on his desk.
