Transferring to UConn for my master's in sports medicine felt like a crazy dream come true. The campus was buzzing with life, and I had a mix of nerves and excitement swirling inside me as I walked through the crowded halls.

I was holding on to my acceptance letter for the Sports Medicine Student Manager program, I couldn't believe I was actually here, ready to work with the UConn Huskies Women's basketball team.

"Alright, let's do this," I muttered to myself, taking a deep breath before stepping into the sports complex. The energy inside was electric.

Athletes were gearing up for practice, and the medical team was already hustling. My heart pounded as I approached Dr. Lewis, the head of the program. His warm smile and confident demeanor instantly put me at ease.

"Welcome, Selah," Dr. Lewis greeted me. "We're thrilled to have you on board. You'll be working closely with our medical team and, of course, with the players. It's a demanding role, but I'm confident you'll excel."

"Thank you, Dr. Lewis," I replied, trying to sound calm despite the butterflies in my stomach. "I'm excited to be here and ready to learn."

As Dr. Lewis led me to the training room, the first person I saw was my cousin. KK's face lit up as she spotted me, and she dashed over with a smile.

"Oh my god, girlie pop!" KK exclaimed, throwing her arms around me. "I can't believe you're finally here!"

I laughed, hugging her back tightly. "I know, it's crazy, right?"

KK pulled back, excited. "Everyone, come meet my cousin, Selah!" she called out, waving over the rest of the team. Soon, I was surrounded by some of the most talented players in women's basketball.

The first person that stepped forward wasAzzi Fudd, extending a hand. "Hey I'm Azzi! Welcome to the team." She said with a welcoming smile.

"Thank you. It's good to meet you," I replied, shaking her hand.

Next was Ice Brady, who gave me a friendly nod. "Hi Selah? Good to have you here."

"Thanks, Ice. Happy to be here," I said, smiling.

Then was Nika Muhl. She grinned and reached out to shake my hand. "Hiii! We're excited to have you here."

"I'm looking forward to it, Nika," I said, feeling more at ease. All the girls so far seemed very welcoming and kind.

Aubrey Griffin stepped up and gave me a quick hug. "Welcome, Selah! Can't wait to get to know you."

"Thanks, Aubrey. Same here," I replied warmly.

Finally, the Paige Bueckers turned to me with that warm smile I had seen from across the room and extended her hand. "Hey, nice to meet you, Selah. Welcome to the team!"

I can't lie and say I wasn't feeling a little starstruck. Everyone who was a fan of women's basketball knew who Paige Bueckers was. She's amazingly talented and I was honored to just been in her presence to be honest.

I shook her hand, feeling a spark that was slightly confusing. "Thanks, Paige. It's great to meet you." I said genuinely excited to meet her.

Dr. Lewis clapped his hands to get everyone's attention. "Alright, ladies, Selah will be at most practices and every game. Let's make her feel welcome."

The girls all nodded and murmured their agreement. With that, Dr. Lewis left the room, and I prepared to follow him out when KK and Paige stopped me.

"Hey, Selah, wait up," KK called, grabbing my arm. "We're all going to dinner tomorrow night. Wanna join us? It'll be a great way to get to know everyone better."

Paige nodded, smiling encouragingly. "Yeah, you should come. It'll be fun."
I thought for a few seconds, then nodded. "Sure, I'd love to. Thanks for inviting me."

"Great!" Paige said. "KK will text you the details."

"Okay, looking forward to it," I replied, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.

I walked out of the gym, still nervous, but feeling better about what the next three years hold for me. I hope the rest of the team is as welcoming as the members I just met.
