"Jessie's doing so well in her pre-law classes," her mother beamed. "She's at the top of her class."

"And Mark's set with his varsity scholarship for college" her father added proudly.

Vivian nodded absently. No matter what she did, it was never enough. Jessie was the academic prodigy, and Mark the athletic superstar. Vivian? She was just... there.

After dinner, she retreated to her room.

She sat on her bed immersed in a book, the words on the page blurring as her mind wandered. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear the sound of approaching footsteps until her bedroom door burst open with a bang.

Startled, Vivian looked up to see her older brother Mark standing in the doorway, a mischievous grin on his face.

"Hey, Viv!" he exclaimed, bouncing into her roon. "Whatcha doing?"

Vivian sighed, closing her book and setting it aside. "Just reading," she replied, trying to hide her annoyance at being interrupted.

Mark flopped down onto her bed, ignoring her protests as he made himself comfortable. "You know, you spend way too much time cooped up in here," he said, nudging her playfully. "You should come out and watch my next soccer match."

Vivian rolled her eyes, not entirely convinced. "I don't know, Mark. Soccer games aren't really my thing."

Mark pouted, giving her his best puppy-dog eyes. "Come on, Viv, it'll mean a lot to me. Plus, I could use some extra support out there on the field."

Vivian hesitated, torn between her desire to please her brother and her reluctance to step out of her comfort zone.

Mark's grin widened, and he reached into his backpack, pulling out a familiar red and white jersey. "You're my good luck charm, Vivian. And besides, you've never been to one of my matches before. I want you to see me in action."

Vivian's eyes widened in surprise as she took in the sight of the jersey in Mark's hands. She had seen him wear it countless times on the field, but she had never imagined she would have the chance to wear it herself.
