Morning came all around the Pentagram as people started getting up for the day ahead of them. Cars zooming by and loud voices echoed through the streets on the Border Zone as the day was just getting started.
Well, for most people it was. As for Phoenix, she was still fast asleep from the night of excitement. She went on an endless amount of joyrides that night and finally set up their new phone to the point they were exhausted. So much so that she forgot to set any kind of alarm, sleeping away the morning.
Meanwhile at the V Tower, everything was being set up at the lab. The cleaning crew came during the night and scrubbed the place top to bottom, and washed every piece of equipment that was provided. The chemicals were just arriving as two bird demons, Kiwi and Pepper, stepped out of the room, wondering where Phoenix was.
"Do you think she forgot?" asked Kiwi.
"I wouldn't doubt it, but her phone keeps going to voicemail after a few seconds. I'm sure she'll be here soon," Pepper said.
Pepper signs the chemical delivery form just as Vox was rounding the corner. Noticing him, Kiwi waved him down to ask him.
"Hey, would you happen to know where Phoenix is? She isn't answering her phone," Kiwi asked.
"How should I know? I'm not her babysitter," Vox said insulted.
"Kiwi, it's fine," Pepper said, putting a hand on her shoulder, "She's probably not answering since they only have Meria saved on that old phone of theirs. I'll call Meria and ask later."
Both of them start grabbing boxes of chemicals and start bringing them into the lab. Vox wanted this drug to be made as fast as possible, so the fact that Phoenix wasn't here yet pissed him off. Deciding to do it himself, he dialed her number to try to get an answer. After a few rings, Phoenix answered.
"Hello?" Phoenix answered with a yawn.
"Where the hell are you?"
"Oh, um, I'm just outside the building," Phoenix said trying to sound more alert, stuff could be heard being thrown around in the background.
"Then why do you sound so dead?" He questioned.
"Oh um, I was just very...bored," said Phoenix, trying to find their words.
"Oh, sorry for boring you then," He said sarcastically, "But you still have work to do here.""Wait, no, I-I didn't mean it like that. I'll be up in a second, just need to find parking," Phoenix said, the jingling of keys being heard nearby.
"You're a terrible liar," he said scoffing.
"I gotta go!" Phoenix interrupted before quickly hanging up.Phoenix quickly got dressed and entered the garage, ready to ride at the speed of light on their bike. Quickly opening the garage up, they revved their engine awake and bolted out, only to turn back to close their door. Vox watched the whole scene play out with hilarity, watching them struggle to reach the rope, only to realize they had wings.
Phoenix sped through the V district as fast as possible, trying not to be later than they already were. Finally arriving in front of it, they parked their bike and quickly ran to the front entrance, only to run right into someone passing by. It was a short girl with large pigtails, carrying some clothing bags.
"Watch where you're going, twat!" Velvette angrily shouted, "Do you know who I am?"
"No, should I?" Phoenix asked.
"Are you all feathers for brains? Clearly you are since that outfit looks like a mess. Did you dress yourself in the dark?" Velvette said, berating her appearance, "I thought workers here had at least had a minimal standard for fashion."
