You get ready to film another video for your YouTube channel. It has been just over a year ago since you have started this channel and it has been going so well. You never thought your channel would do so good, since there are a lot of creators out there who have far more experience and are a lot more popular than you are. You have been watching ASMR for quite some time, maybe around four years already. You came across a video when you wanted to calm down after a stressful period and although there is a stigma around it, you found yourself curious and clicked on the video. And since that time, you watch a video almost everyday, mostly when you lie in bed and want to go to sleep.
And just over a year ago, you decided to also make an ASMR channel on YouTube. You love watching it, but you also craved to do something more. So, why not make ASMR yourself then? Since you started, your channel has been growing and with just a little over a year since starting, you now have half a million subscribers. It has been an amazing journey and experience so far and you are really proud at yourself. Your boyfriend Oscar has been supportive and finds it great that you have found something that you really like to do and he is also really proud at you. But, he has never made an appearance nor does he watch ASMR. So, you bribed him to do a video with you. At first he was hesitant, but he couldn't say no to you and now he is watching how you get ready to film another video.
While setting up the camera and checking if the sound is okay, you catch him watching you with a smile. ''Why are you smiling like that?'' you ask him, now smiling yourself.
''I just like to see you in your element and being so concentrated,'' he replies. ''I have never seen you do this too, so it is also all new for me.''
''Well, everytime when I film a video, you flee,'' you tease. ''So of course you never saw me do this. I bet you haven't even seen a video of mine.''
''I did actually,'' he says to defends himself. ''I watched a bit of your video when you did the unboxing of some fanmail you got.''
That was a video of a couple weeks ago. You have gotten fanmail from some subscribers and followers and decided to make a video of unboxing and trying some things out. It turned out pretty great and you loved to see what everyone send you. It is also so sweet of them to send some things, because they didn't have to do that. You smile just thinking of it.
You finish setting everything up and now it is time to actually film it. Oscar knows it is time and also knows he can't back out now. He promised to do this video with you. And he is also a little bit curious with how you do it and how it eventually turns out. You have picked some items beforehand for Oscar to do in the video. You decided, as it is his first time, to let him do some triggers and try to give you tingles. So that means you will put in your headphones while Oscar is doing his thing.
''Okay, everything is ready,'' you say to him. ''You can come in now.''
Oscar laughs a bit nervously and within a few steps, he stands next to you. ''What now?''
You can't help but laugh seeing him so nervous. ''Okay so, we will sit on the ground. I always sit on the ground, as I find it more cozy that way. Since it is your first time doing ASMR, I thought it would be fun to see if you can give me tingles by doing some of the triggers I have sought out for you to do. You know what those terms mean, right?''
Oscar nods and rolls with his eyes. ''I may not watch ASMR, but I do know some things about it.''
You just laugh and explains some other things. ''So, when I begin to record, I will first do my intro and explain what will happen in this video and after that, the floor is yours.''
Oscar nods again and prepares himself mentally. He never would have thought he would do this, but here he is. You put in your headphones and click the record button.
''Hi there! Hello, hello, hello,'' you whisper. ''Welcome, or welcome back to, my channel. Today-.''
You see in the camera Oscar looking at you with a smile and that is when you lose it and begin to giggle. Oscar also begins to laugh and asks you why you are giggling. ''I'm sorry. I just lost it when I saw you looking at me like that. It caught me off guard. And it is also because I am not used to having people around me when I am filming.''
You pull yourself together and also Oscar stops with laughing when he sees you try to stop. ''This one is for the bloopers I guess.''
You take a deep breath and calm down again. And then you start over with your intro. ''Hi there! Hello, hello, hello.'' While whispering, you do also some hand movements. ''Welcome, or welcome back to, my channel. Today, as you all can see, I have my boyfriend Oscar with me. I finally convinced him to record a video with me.''
He laughs quietly. ''Yeah, she bribed me and here I am.''
You give him a soft elbow, which makes Oscar give you a surprised and hurt look, what makes the both of you laugh. ''So, as I said, Oscar will join me today in this video. This is his first time doing ASMR and I figured it might be fun to let him try and give me tingles. I have gathered some triggers he can use. And yeah, let's just begin.''
Oscar looks at the things you have prepared for him. ''Can I simply just take one and start?'' he asks hesitantly.
''Yeah, just take one and try to do something with that,'' you say to him.
''Alright,'' he says and starts with picking up a box and starts to tap on it. Instantly you relax at the way he is tapping. It is not slow, but also not fast tapping. ''Do I do this right?'' he asks you.
''There is no right or wrong in doing ASMR,'' you explain. ''Only of you make loud noises, as ASMR is meant to be relaxing and calming, so loud sounds and noises are not welcome. But other than that, it varies from person to person what they like and do. Just go with the flow and do what you think is right. But I must say, I find the tapping really amazing. Also, when you are done with the triggers, just put them down and take another one.''
He nods and continues with the tapping. You smile and close your eyes to enjoy the experience. After another minute or so, he decides to switch to another trigger. He now has a makeup brush in his hands. He runs it over the microphone and strokes the microphone with it. With the minute, not only you relax more, but Oscar also seems to relax more. You look at him and feels proud at him for doing this. He never told you, but you knew he was a little bit nervous. But it seems like he relaxed more after you talked to him about just doing what he thinks is right.
While stroking the microphone, he looks at you and he gets an idea. He begins to grin and his hand goes from the microphone to your face and then you suddenly feel your makeup brush on your face and that startled you. Oscar begins to laugh and needs to do his best to not laugh so loud. You shake your head and are also laughing.
''You startled me, you know,'' you whisper while pulling yourself together again.
''I know,'' he replies. ''That was the meaning of it.''
You elbow him softly and then Oscar decides it is time to do another trigger. This time it is a ball which gives crinkly sounds.
''I had my doubts when saying yes,'' Oscar then whispers while squeezing the ball. ''But I actually begin to like it. It has a calming effect.''
You smile at him. ''It is nice to see you so calm and concentrated and I can see you enjoy it yourself as well.''
He smiles and continues. It is also a really calm setting, without too much whispering. Oscar throws the ball in the air, catches it and then puts it down for another trigger. The next ten minutes are just Oscar doing some triggers, like scratching and tapping fabric, water noises and rummaging through a box. The last trigger he does, is tapping again. He now knows you really like it. When he begins to tap on the box again, he can see the smile on your face and how your body reacts to it and finds it amusing and crazy how the brain and body can react to something like that. After a few minutes, he stops and it is time to end the video.
''Well, I hope you enjoyed this video as much as we did. Right?'' you say and looks at Oscar, who nods.
''I did enjoy doing this and I hope you all enjoyed it as well,'' Oscar says. ''Have a great night everyone!''
