Half scrambling half falling, I made my way down the steep slope as debris tumbled downhill.
It was a difficult task, trying to chase after a man who made a living of stealing.
As someone who came from a background of theft, I understood the necessity of survival. This guy stole to live. You could imagine how unhappy I was having to go and apprehend him.
After chasing for a few more minutes, jumping over large tree roots and ducking under overhanging branches, I was finally able to grasp his hoodie, and pull him to the ground.
Marc came from around and shoved the thief against a tree trunk.
"Good work," he patted my shoulder and walked away with the criminal in hand, leaving me with a sort of disappointed feeling.
I wished for him to get away, but at the same time I wanted to do well on my first mission.
Has selfishness really gotten the better of me?
Not only was this man a highly successful thief, but he stole from the Senator, therefore, he was a priority.
Then again, he did it all for survival. He only ever stole small things, mostly food. This time he only stole the watch off of the Senator, and the Senator demanded the theif be caught.
As I entered my home, I immediately flopped down on the bean bag in the living room.
"Hellooooooooooooo!" I was greeted warmly bu non other than Sam.
"Hey sam," I gave him a sleepy smile.
"Sher," Zooms hopped onto the low table beside me, "Go take a nap, this guy made you chase him for fourty eight minutes non stop."
"Maybe a nap's a good idea," I agreed thankfully.
After going to my room, I took a quick shower, and crashed on top of my bed as if it was my savior, which it was. I fell asleep two seconds after.
...
MEMORY
WARNING: ABUSE ⚠️"Mom?" I called out to her, but she didn't answer from inside her room.
This was the third guy this year, and he, like all the other men, broke up with her after hearing she had a child.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" She would scream.
"ALL YOU EVER DO IS BRING BAD LUCK TO ME," She would scream.
"I WISH I NEVER HAD YOU," She would scream.
"Then maybe your father would have stayed..." Her voice would trail off.
"You mistake..."
The repeated word.
Mistake.
Is that what I was?
Maybe I was.
Did I really deserve happiness when all I do is bring pain and suffering to my own mother?
"Mommy," I chocked, holding back tears, "I brought you your favorite beer, a pack of cigarettes, and some toast with butter spread on it.
The door suddenly swung open, and in a flash, the tray was removed from my hands, and was flung at my face.
"GET OUT," She slapped me. Again and again.
"GET OUT IF YOU KNOW WHATS GOOD FOR YOU!" She shouted, pounding her fists against my small shoulders.
I fell to the floor, and she began kicking.
"I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!"
And she said that until she left me, shutting the door behind her, leaving me shivering, bleeding, and silently crying.
I lay there.
I stared at the shattered bottle of beer sliwly sinking into the wooden floor.
Don't do that... I thought to the beer.
You make mommy feel better...
All I did was stare at the beer. A lot of time past. I don't know how long time has passed. All I know is that it was enough time for the beer to completely dry out on the floorboards.
"I'm sorry mom," I whispered, and mustered all the strength I could to get up, shakily.
My legs wobbled a bit, but I just stumbled over to my bed, swarming with bed bugs.
They were my only friends.
I told them everything.
I caught a bed bug and named him Larry a while ago, I made sure to put him on my skin every now and then so he could eat.
He was my best friend.
As Larry sucked on my blood, I explained everything.
"I'm sorry for making you go through that, Larry," I would laugh at the end.
Laughing sometimes made me feel better.
Sometimes I would laugh out of nowhere until my insides hurt.
I never thought of myself as a psychopath, but as a ten year old, I knew it wasn't normal.
After Larry was done sucking for a good thirty minutes, I picked him up and placed him back on the cup.
I loved Larry, he was the only one there for me. No rat, bird, or even cat understood my problems like Larry did.
Larry has been with me for four months.
I found out they live to up to a year with a proper host, so I was going to give him as much as he needed.
With Larry by my side, I felt okay...
