CHAPTER 6:
Somewhere Only We Know.˚ * ꒰ঌ✦໒꒱ * ˚.
THE SUN HUNG high in the sky over the sprawling green fields, casting a warm golden hue across the landscape.
Genevieve lay on the soft grass, her white sun dress fluttering gently in the light breeze.
Beside her, Benjamin Featherington lay with his arms folded behind his head, his rolled-up trousers revealing tanned ankles that peeked out against the lush earth.
As they stared up at the billowing clouds overhead, Genevieve's laughter rang out like the sweetest melody, a sound that seemed to make the world around them bloom a little brighter.
"That one looks like a ship, don't you think?" she pointed.
Benjamin turned his head slightly, squinting up at the sky. "More like a potato on a plank if you ask me," he countered with a smirk, causing Genevieve to giggle even harder.
They lay together, hands intertwined, feeling the warmth of each other's presence.
It was a moment steeped in simplicity, yet it felt charged with something more, a connection that neither had experienced for too long.
Benjamin turned his head back towards the sky, his expression turning thoughtful. "You know, I can't stand my family sometimes," he sighed, breaking the tranquillity of their reverie. "They're always hovering over me, expecting me to be this perfect Featherington heir. I swear, it's suffocating."
Genevieve frowned sympathetically, squeezing his hand tighter. "I know what you mean, Benjamin. My mama... she keeps me so sheltered. I feel so far behind the other girls. While everyone else is flirting and learning about the world, I... I hardly know anything!"
"Tell me about it!" Benjamin exclaimed, sitting up. "You and I, we're practically grown-ups now! I can't be the only one allowed to dream!" He shifted closer, their eyes locking, a spark igniting in the space between them. "What if we ran away together? Just the two of us?"
Genevieve's heart raced at his words. She sat up, surprise etched across her pretty features. "Run away? But... where would we go?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, lest the weight of the idea crush her down.
"Anywhere!" Benjamin declared excitedly. "We could find a little town, a place where no one knows us. We could get jobs, live our lives freely. Just think of it, Genny! No rules, no one telling us what to do!" His voice dropped to a conspiratorial hush. "We could be anyone we wanted to be."
Genevieve felt something flutter in her chest, a mix of fear and exhilaration. "But what about our families? What would they think?" she asked, although deep within, the idea stirred something restless.
"What could they do?" Benjamin shrugged lightly. "It's our lives, not theirs. We could start fresh, make our own adventure." He crawled even closer, locking his gaze onto hers, and for a fleeting moment, the world shrank to the space where only they existed.
As they lay back on the grass, they began to weave daydreams of their own, spinning tales of the little town they might find. "We could have a cottage with flowers out front," Genevieve enthused, her voice soaring in delight. "And on sunny days, we could bake bread and sell it in the village square."
Benjamin chuckled, "And I'll be the baker's assistant, working all day until you say, 'Benjamin, let's run away to the riverside!'"
"Oh yes! We'd catch frogs and try to build tiny boats to send them down the stream!" Genevieve exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement. They both chuckled, imagining their adventures.
