Reyna's POV
I sat in the back of the class as the teacher, Mrs. Smith, was telling us about the first unit we would be working on, which happened to be ancient Rome. She then moved on to teaching us basic knowledge of Rome and the Roman empire. I was bored having learned this long before, and my mind started to drift off.
Suddenly there was a loud bang and the door to the classroom flew open. "Oh, shut up, Jackson." A girl with spiky black and electric blue eyes called over her shoulder.
Mrs. Smith seemed annoyed by the outburst. "You're late."
"And?" Thalia asked. "It's the first day, and I got lost on my way to class." It was like the most overused excuse to get away with being late' on the first day of school, and Mrs. Smith clearly thought the same.
"You still shouldn't be this late for class," Mrs. Smith persists. "And your outburst as you entered the class doesn't make your story really believable."
"Well, I dropped my brother at class, then on my way here i got lost and I ran into my friend, who helped me find my way here." Thalia said, then added with sass. "Happy?"
Mrs. Smith rolled her eyes and said, "Fine, but don't let it happen again. Now go sit down, and pay attention." She aimed the last part at the whole class.
Thalia made her way to the back of the class and sat down in the only open seat left, which happened to be right next to me. She looked just as bored as I felt. I looked out the window and at the trees, wondering if it was possible that my hounds had somehow escaped and could provide me with some kind of entertainment.
"You bored too?" I heard Thalia whisper to me.
I looked over at her. "No Thalia, I just like looking at the trees because they remind me of you." I said with an attitude.
Thalia put her hands over her heart. "Aww, you missed me." She teased.
"Yeah, because I totally missed you after that time when you kidnaped me." I said.
"Oh, come on, it wasn't that bad." She said playfully.
"You're impossible," I responded, but I had a small smile on my face.
"Yeah, but you like it." She said, I rolled my eyes.
We continued to talk until Mrs. Smith caught on. She asked a question, but I wasn't paying attention until she said my name. "What?" I asked her.
This seemed to annoy her ever more. "I asked who was the person that started Rome. If you were paying attention you'll be able to give me the answer."
"Really? That's like the most basic question out there." I said. She gave me a stern look that said 'answer the question then'. "Fine," I said with an eye roll. "Rome was started by Romulus and Remus, but Romulus later killed his brother Remus, angered by the actions of his brother. That's also why Rome is called that."
Mrs. Smith seemed shocked by my answer, she was clearly expecting me to be like every other student who wasn't paying attention and not know the answer. I smirked and went back to my conversation with Thalia.
Soon enough the class was over, Mrs. Smith still seemed shocked at my answer. In fact everyone in the class did, even Thalia. "What's your next class?" I asked Thalia as we walked out of the class.
She looked at her schedule. After a moment she looked up and answered, "Spanish room 125."
As she said it, I realized we had the same class. "Oh, same" As we walked to our next class something seemed to be bothering Thalia. "What's up?" I asked her, bumping my shoulder into her's.
"It's nothing," She said, I looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "Fine," she rolled her eyes at my persistence. "Okay, I mean I know your Roman and all but when I ask Jason about Rome and stuff he gets all confused and stuff."
I understood what she was asking, why did I have a bunch of roman facts and stuff memorized. I sighed, and started to explain. "Well, when I first got to camp Jupiter I didn't really have many friends, so in my free time I would study stuff about Rome, the roman empire and roman culture so I would be prepared for whatever happens."
"Oh," Thalia whispered.
"Yeah, anyways, what's it's like being a hunter of Artemis?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"Oh yeah, it's amazing." She started. "We basically get run around the world as a group of teenage girls with anger issues and almost no supervision."
"Isn't that like your job?" I asked, a small smile playing at my face.
"I mean technically," Thalia said before jokingly adding, "But I'm pretty sure Artemis didn't fully think through her decision to make me her lieutenant."
I laughed lightly and rolled my eyes slightly. "Really?"
"Oh, yeah. She's sick of me and my shenanigans." She said, laughing. "Half the time she's just watching and keeping me out of trouble."
"How you're able to annoy the gods and not face any consequences, is truly a miracle." I muttered.
"I have many talents." She said, "One of them being getting myself out of trouble. Half the time."
At that we reached the class. We walked in and took a seat at two desks at the back of the class. There was a buzz of talking throughout the classroom. Some were conversing in English, others in Spanish, and others a mixture of the two. Overall a wave of familiarity of the language of my childhood washed over me.
