Annie's Adventure

Designing the Suit

     Annie fell in love with the Star Wars books and video games in her university years. Letting her mind escape to that galaxy far far away was a great way to take her mind off of the stress of her engineering classes. One night, after reading the "Revenge of the Sith" novelization, she became fixated on the part of the book that described in graphic detail how Anakin Skywalker felt when first donned his imposing Darth Vader suit. The despair and angst described in the book sent a shiver down Annie's spine and stuck in the recesses of her mind. Every now and then, Annie would find herself fantasizing about how it would feel to experience a day through Darth Vader's eyes. "How would it feel to be trapped in a suit that restricts your movements but keeps you alive at the same time," she wondered.

     Years after starting her engineering career, Annie was still intrigued by that question. She found herself spending hours online searching for a Darth Vader costume in her size. Annie was disappointed with the options that she found. Most of the costumes for sale were cheaply made and the screen accurate ones still didn't have that extra spark she was looking for. 

     Annie resolved to put her Engineering Degree to work designing a Darth Vader suit that met all of her specifications. She commissioned a tailor to sew a modified leather body suit and cape for her. Annie also commissioned a cobbler to create a unique pair of boots to complement her costume. Finally, she used a specialized 3D printer to fabricate the armor pieces and the iconic helmet. The whole process had taken two years to complete but now she was ready to debut her masterpiece at the local comic con.

     Annie smiled and breathed a sigh of relief as she stood over the various pieces of her custom made costume. She had laid everything out from head to toe on the bed of her hotel room and scanned it over and over to make sure nothing was missing.
