Ahana's P.O.V

We returned home after eating ice cream at the same place as the one we went to on our wedding. My feet were aching as we walked to the elevator. These were a new pair and the straps were digging into my heels.

Just an elevator ride and you can take them off, I reminded myself. Just hold on a little more, Ahana.

I leaned on one side of the elevator as we stepped inside and closed my eyes, hoping to distract myself from the pain.

"What's wrong?"

I opened my eyes to Ashar's concerned face.

"My feet hurt because of the damn heels." I mumbled closing my eyes again.

He said nothing but I felt a slight touch on my feet. My eyes shot open and the sight of Ashar on his knees greeted me.

"What are you doing?" I asked shocked.

He looked up at me as his hands opened the clasp of my heels. "You said the heels are hurting you so I'm removing them."

He finished taking them off and stood up. He held the heels in his hand and turned towards me, "Better?"

I nodded, "I'll take those." I gestured towards the sandals.

He switched the heels to his other hand and grasped my extended hand in his, "We are here."

We walked into the apartment and he placed the sandals near the door. We both freshened up. As I was drinking water in the kitchen Ashar gestured me towards the couch.

I sat down questionaly and he kneeled down infront of me. He picked up my foot and placed it on his legs gently and applied a bandage on it.

"If they were hurting so much, why did you wear them?" He asked frowning at the wound on my feet.

"Well, I had to wear heels because you're so unnecessarily tall! I look tiny next to you otherwise." I huffed out.

"You do look tiny." He said his lips tugging up.

I frowned, "Are you saying I'm short? I'll have you know I'm not!"

"Sure you're not." He said smiling up at me.

"I'm not!" I said glaring at him.

"I know you're trying to scare me Ahana but you look too cute to be taken seriously. You're lovely."

"Well... That's just...completely unrelated!" I said getting up flustered. I quickly walked away hoping he didn't see my burning face.

Ashar's P.O.V

I smiled at her retreating figure and got up dusting myself off. I was going to follow her inside when my phone rang. I scowled seeing the caller ID.

"What do you want?"

"You must have forgotten all your manners, son." The voice came from the other side.

"I do not have time for this. Why are you calling?" I asked pacing around the living room.

"Hafsa wants to have a family lunch tomorrow. I'm calling to invite you and your wife."

"Fuck no." I said chuckling.

"It's not optional. Your mother requires your presence."

"She's not my mother." I mumbled.

"Ashar."

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath hearing her voice coming from the phone. I didn't know she was listening.

"Mom-" I started explaining when she cut me off.

"Ashar please come to lunch tomorrow with Ahana. We will talk later, okay?"

"Fine, we will be there."

I ended the call and threw my phone on the couch as I ran a hand through my hair. It's always him who messes up everything. Why can't he just leave me alone I will never understand. I'll have to apologise to mom tomorrow. I didn't want to upset her. She shouldn't pay for the misdeeds of my father.

He was happy to do so during my childhood and now he suddenly wants to be around all the damn time. I suddenly felt too agitated to sleep so I decided to go to the gym.

"Ashar? Where are you going?" Ahana asked as I picked up my gym bag.

"I'm going to the gym. You should sleep."

"At this time?" She looked at the clock displaying eleven pm. "Is everything okay?"

"Everything's fine. Don't worry about it, I'll be back in an hour or so. Don't wait up."

She didn't say anything as I walked out.

Ahana's P.O.V

I stared at him and sighed to myself. Something must be wrong, he looked troubled. I didn't want to pressure him into telling me something he wasn't comfortable sharing but I also didn't like the fact that he left to go through it alone.

I sat down at the dining table and opted to staring at the door waiting for him. I won't be able to sleep anyway.

He returned around twelve thirty and looked at me alarmed.

"Why didn't you go to bed yet?" He asked.

"I was worried."

"I told you everything's fine, Ahana."

"It's not, I can tell. But you don't need to tell me anything. I stayed up because I was waiting for my husband, that's it. Now that you're here let's go to bed." I said and held his hand pulling him towards the bedroom.

"It's fine now that you're back. I'm right here if you need to talk and even if you don't, I'm still right here." I said laying down beside him.

Ashar's P.O.V

Her words caught me off guard. She's right here. With me. The thought comforted me to an extent i didn't know was possible.

I pulled her close to me and wrapped my arms around her. She placed her head on my chest and my closed my eyes.

Unknowingly, Ahana has become a constant in my life.

And I wasn't one to complain.
