Lando Norris
We stand in the elevator and watch the doors close. The music makes awkward silence seem less painful than this. I reach up to fix my hair, looking at the reflective door for some sort of mirror. We're on each end of the elevator, when i finally turn my head to acknowledge her. Shes already looking at me, and quickly whips her head around to stare at the door, trying to act as if she wasn't checking me out. I laugh softly under my breath. Lizzie starts fidgeting with her dress, pulling it down, as it seems to be a lot shorter than she expec-
Wait, I've seen that dress somewhere before-
5 years ago
It was a Friday night and everyone was down at the local club 'the boiler room' as a weekend celebration i guess. Max decided to ditch me last minute so i was standing in the corner of the room, alone and feeling like it was a sign to go home. I hadn't even built up the courage to go to the bar yet even though i was actually 18. I was ready to head out until She walked into the club along with all her friends. The last time i saw her was maths yesterday and somehow she looked different. I catch her eye from across the room, seeing her pull out her fake ID and give me a wink. I instantly looked away, she must have done prees- there is no way she just winked at me sober- shes Lizzie Jones for fucks sake. I mean i know her, but i dont know her like that. I look back but shes gone, i feel a tap on my shoulder.
"Always a pleasure to see you around norris"
"Likewise Jones" i turned to see her flushed face, she already seemed to be over heating from the air of the club. Her hair is in two braids, and shes wearing a red sparkly mini dress that highlights every curve on her body. She looks gorgeous. Im trying to look anywhere other than at her breasts, awkwardly fidgeting with my hands.
"You are far too sober for tonight, come with me and grab a drink" she sings, waving her hands in the air,i didnt budge.
"Please, Lando" she begged, looking up at me through those lashes of hers. I mean who could resist. The way she said my name- there was something about it, something about her.
"Fine, but i refuse to get too drunk tonight, or let you get too drunk. We both have training tomorrow-"
"Would you fuck off about karting for just once mate, its not everything. We're in a club Lando- we're 18- well nearly" she puts a finger to her lips, signalling to be quiet. I mean it is everything- to me. Shes always so embarrassed that she does karting, Lizzie never talks about it. But im happy to tell everyone, it's all over my instagram anyways, and one day i hope to make it into F1, and i know she wants to aswell. I just got the letter accepting me into the training academy this morning, i hadn't seen Lizzie yet to ask her.
"Dance with me and get drunk tonight, i wouldn't usually be caught talking with you" she yells over the music, tugging my shirt to pull me through the crowd.
"Thanks for that Lizzie, feel like making me any more embarrassed to be here tonight?" I ask genuinely, i mean all her friends are here tonight, we barely talk in school or on track. We only know each other because we spend half our life together karting. But as soon as i ask the question her face fall slightly and i feel a pang in my chest.
"You know what it doesn't matter-" i start but she cuts me off. Clearly drunk enough to speak without thinking.
"Lando look, i actually don't mind you, and you were all alone in the corner looking like a lost deer and i wanted to help you out. Clearly mr Norris is missing his max" she boops my nose at that last bit, and i cringe at the nickname. God-Shes already so drunk.
She turns away from me and orders something from the bar. When 6 shots are handed to us she turns and smiles at me.
"Bottoms up" she yells and downs all 3 within seconds, and i follow, downing them too. Our faces screw up at the same time as we laugh so hard she falls off her chair. I quickly jump up to help her up and we keep laughing like that for what seems like forever-
I shake my head to try and rid the memory of that night. Knowing its the reason for all our arguments and fights. We grew up together, but we weren't friends until that night, and then we became enemies.
I catch Lizzie out the corner of my eye, she twiddling her thumbs, as she lets out a sigh. A wonder if she was thinking the same th- no i have to stop replaying that night. It's done, me and Lizzie aren't friends, and now shes the one who's standing alone in the corner. Tonight im going to drink until i forget, it's crazy how a dress can bring back so many memories.
Lizzie Jones
This is too awkward. He's just stood there, and he keeps sighing every 3 seconds. I wonder what he's thinking of- probably ways to murder me in my sleep. Talking of sleep- I'll have to sleep on the plane tomorrow because i doubt I'll be getting any today, i plan to party and party so hard that i cant walk in a straight line by the end of the night. My phone buzzes and Charles messages me, asking if im on my way down. Just as i shoot a reply, the doors open and all the drivers are stood in a circle by the reception desk, heads turning at the ding of the elevator.
Lando walks straight off into the crowd, hugging everyone, complimenting their outfits, he used to be so shy, how has he become this new person. I slowly make my way towards Charles and he gives me a smile, and holds his arm out for me to take. We all make our way out to the limos that will be taking us to the club, having to share between two. Luckily Lando is in the other, far far away from me.
