Colyn's POV

"Ok sweetheart, we'll leave you to it then. Just remember we're only a call away if you need anything... or if you just want to talk that's perfectly fine too. Actually you know what, call even if you don't want to talk, at least one call per day is mandatory." My mother continues to babble on as I glance over at my father who runs an exhausted hand down his aging face.

He gives me a look, telling me she won't be stopping anytime soon so I release a tired sigh and wait patiently for her to get everything she needs to say off her chest.

Honestly my father and I both know she's only doing this to keep the two of them from leaving but I really don't have time for this right now. I need to unpack the rest of my boxes and luggage so I won't have to run around trying to do it when my roommate arrives. It'll be a lot easier and less crowded if I'm able to get it all done before they arrive and start doing the same thing.

Being in a small and cramped dorm room isn't something I necessarily dreamed about and if I'm being completely honest I actually hate the idea all together. I find it easier to be alone, especially when it comes to schoolwork. With trying to get my undergrad in biology and chemistry, I need the proper atmosphere for studying in order to become a doctor. Being in a dorm with the possibility of an obnoxious roommate won't help me to achieve that.

"Oh! And also make sure you go out and buy yourself all the medicines you need, I packed some basic cold and flu medicine for you but you'll need to go out an-" even after zoning out for I'd say a solid 5 minutes, my mothers rambling continues to pour out of her like a broken faucet and I genuinely begin to worry she won't ever leave. Luckily my father seems to have also had enough and stops her from breaking some world wide record of talking for the longest period of time without catching a breath.

"Honey, I think he'll be just fine by himself. It's about time we leave and let him get everything settled." His voice is strained from the annoyance and exhaustion he emits due to standing here for so long. I can't really blame him, we've been here for almost fifteen minutes.

With a thankful glance toward my dad, he gives me a light smile with a nod of his head while my mother lets out a sad whine, sounding close to that of a pouting toddler.

"I don't want to leave him. I've already lost one of my babies to this stupid college system, I can't do this again!" Her tone is weak and shaky as she holds her hands to her chest in a sign of heartache. When my older brother left for college last year mom reacted much like this and I remember it taking an excruciatingly long 45 minutes just for her to let him go. It was an agonizing day for her and I can tell it's the same for her now as she looks up at me with pleading eyes.

Letting out another long sigh, I walk the few steps it takes to reach her before pulling her into a tight hug, her small frame shakes and I hear sniffles coming from her so I tighten my hold slightly.

"I'll call everyday, Ma, so don't worry. I'll be fine." I reassure her which calms her only barely.

"You b-better."

With one last squeeze, I let her go before I give my father a much quicker hug and wave them off, watching as they walk out of my dorm room and down the hall.

With the two of them gone, I'm finally left alone to start working on settling myself into this new, tiny room I'll be calling home for a while.

Surprisingly enough, I was able to get quite a lot done before my roommate's arrival. I organized all of my clothes into my closet and dresser and even went as far as hanging up a few posters before the door knob wiggled and clicked, signaling someone unlocking it.
