“Mom,” Alex starts, in his calmest, sweetest voice. He folds his hands like a good child and tries to bat his eyelashes.
His mother eyes him suspiciously as she pours herself a cup of coffee.
“Yes?”
“I was wondering if we could have a financial discussion-”
“Oh, here we go,” His sister says sarcastically, taking a bite of cereal.
Alex gives her a dirty look before continuing.“A financial discussion,” He tries for a bat of the eyelashes again. It makes
him look deranged."A financial discussion about what?"
"About a club penguin membership card," Alex says slowly. Milk comes out of Adrian's nose, and Ameilia starts cracking up.
His mother pinches the bridge of her nose, "lets 'talk' after school."
Alex walked to school, next to his brother, who was talking to him about jobs.
"Alexis, listen, if you wanna be a good youtuber, you need a good job," He was saying.
"Well, I'm gonna be a lawyer," Alex points out.
"You're eleven, and you need money now," Adrian says. "You're not gonna be cute forever. You're gonna have to start working a little harder."
They get a couple of steps further, Alex saying thoughtfully, "I think I'll probably be cute for forever."
His brother shakes his head, "Whatever you have to tell yourself, man."
"And this is my kitchen, that's my mom," Lexi says, holding her phone towards her mom.
Her mom gives her a quizzical look.
"I'm vlogging," Lexi says like it should be known. She props the phone up on the counter. "You know what else I can vlog."
Her mother raises an eyebrow, but waits for her to continue. For context, Lexi started a YouTube channel about a month ago. She's made a few minecrafy videos, and promised she would start puttting out vlogs when she got to 80 subscribers, which she hit a few days ago.
"The speak now tour in Los Angeles California on August 23rd, 24th, 27th, and 28th," She said in a singsong voice. Her and Mckenzie had a plan. Lexi would present it as a birthday present for her dear sister, who was turning 15 on the 13th of August.
"Do you think I'm made of money?"
Lexi's scrunched up, and she looked at her camera like she was on the office.
"Uh, yes? Have you seen our house?"
"We'll discuss it. That's still many months away, its only April."
"But still-"
The front door opened, and Lexi immediately became distracted.
"My cameraman is home from lacrosse practice! Mom, we'll talk later, I have a room tour to film."
Alex crunched himself in an awkward position on his bed, letting the YouTube algorithm on his tablet pick new videos when one finished.
After "SPEEDRUNNING ROBERY...but in roblox" came a bedwars video.
It was some girl playing, mostly arguing with some other kid named Patrick, and a third guy named George getting caught in the crossfire.
Alex thought it was funny, so, because he is a zombie on YouTube, he hit subscribe.
Lexi sat herself at her desk, looking at YouTube studio.
There was a soft knock on her bedroom door, Lexi’s head turning.
"Lights out," her mother reminded her. The girl frowned, but quickly perked up.
"Mom! I have 100 subscribers!" Her mother smiled at her.
"Good night, Alexis," Her mother says.
"5 more minutes?"
Her mother sighed at the girls hopeful face. She was sure she still had to convince Patrick to log off. And she was also sure the two would still be on their phones afterwards anyway.
But if she was eleven years old, she probably would be too.
"Alright."
"Thanks, mom...I love you."
"Love you too," she said, shutting the door.
Looking again at those of her subscribers who were public, she took a screenshot of those, posting it to her own Twitter account.
One of those subscribers, maybe by some strange fate...was DjYeroc 123.
Her YouTube channel, ItzL_exi, which had five videos. Four minecraft videos, and one vlog/room tour.
She closed her computer, switching out her lights, and then climbing under the covers on her bed.
