To say he was nervous, would be an understatement. Alex was beyond nervous. He was 17 years old, and driving himself to a different country.
Oh, sure, he'd been to America before. Thar wasn't at all the issue.
The issue was his father, whom of which he would be seeing for the first time in he didn't even know how long.
And his sister, and his brother didn't wanna go, not at all.
The sun was setting, and his gas tank was low. It must smell fear, because he's already filled it twice.
He stopped at the next exit, finding himself in a Dandy parking lot, one of those ones with a subway attached to its hip.
Alex fixed the LAFD beanie on his head, grabbing his keys and his wallet, making his way inside.
He bought himself a slushie (blue raspberry) and brought it to the counter with a package of Swiss rolls.
"30 on pump 4 please, and just this too," He said, placing his things on the counter.
"Do you have a rewards card?" The young guy behind the counter asked, and Alex felt himself stare a little too long before responding, "Uh, Ah no."
The guy paused for a minute, before fishing something out of his pocket, and quickly scanning it.
"You can just use mine, my sister racks up points buying Frappuccino Slushies like everyday. You can have the discount."
"Oh, uh, thanks," Alex asked, before paying for his stuff.
"Nice hat, by the way," The guy smiled, and Alex was once again confused, but only for a second. He had the same one.
"Ah, you too!"
Back in the car, he took a sip of his drink, and amped himself up for whatever drive he had left to his father's house, or rather, beach condo.
"Lexi!" Her mother calls, and the girl, who is on a discord call with some friends, removes her headphones to call back, "yeah?"
No response.
Lexi gets up, and calls again from the top of the stairs, "yeah, mom?"
Still. Nothing.
Groaning, she made her way downstairs, where her mom was standing in the kitchen.
"Oh, there you are!" Her mother said. Lexi rolled her eyes, but discreetly, so her mother would not see.
"What's up?"
"I'm going out tonight, as you know-"
"As I know."
"But I drove Patrick to work earlier, so I'm gonna need you to get him at 8, if you can."
"Oh, yeah, sure. I love going down there. We always buy a bunch of candies and frozen coffee," I smile, and my mom smiles back at me, before hugging me, and patting me on tbe back.
"Okay, text me when you two get home. I'll see you in the morning. Like 7 o clock morning, not coming home at 3am to you still awake, understood?"
"Got it, mama's, love you."
"Love you."
At around seven-fourty-five, Lexi bid her friends farewell, and grabbed the keys to the car.
She texted Patrick she was on her way, before actually putting the car into gear and pulling away from the driveway.
He couldn't do it. He got to the door, and was about to knock--he really was. But the lights were on inside, and someone was laughing. Not even just adults-- but clearly little kids.
