I awoke by my fire. Only embers remained as it burned out, the sun glared into the hollow almost blindingly. I sat up and took another look at the gem in my arm. It's so mysterious and I guess that what makes it so intriguing. I held it up and looked straight into it yet nothing happened. I had no way of controlling it, it seems. I made my way outside to the beach. The beast was gone, I kind of oddly missed it. I guess it made me feel safe, with it looking over me and be friendly and all.
I turned around and there it was the beast. I smiled. It seemed to be sleeping. I walked closer. I went around its head as it lay in the sand motionless with both eyes closed. I walked over to its huge belly and lay my hand on it. I soon realised that it wasn't breathing. I took a step back and saw several smaller beasts just shorter than me but had long tails and two little claws. Their mouths lay open with blood dripping from them. They came closer, they looked like they were coming for some more meat from the giant beast. I hid behind it.
I heard the tearing of the beasts flesh and the ripping of meat. I flinched at the sound. I heard the sound of more foot steps run over to the body of the beast. If I stayed any longer they might notice me. I found a stone on the ground and held it tight. I waited for them to get right back into eating before I threw it. It hit a boulder a few paces away. Their heads popped up from the carcass of the beast and they squealed at each other. Then three of the beasts ran over to the rock. I moved along the end of the thick bit of the carcass to just before it sloped down into the neck.
The beasts searched around the stone, then turned to there companions. Then they squealed at each other. Are they communicating? Maybe these beasts are more intelligent than I thought. I picked up another two rocks. The beasts came back to the carcass then started to sniff the air, I quickly threw the rocks in the other direction split apart. Before they learned of my presence. The group of beast split up and went towards the sound. I shifted in the other directions quietly and I slumped lower behind the belly of the huge beast's carcass. The beasts must have kicked up some sand as I was blinded by sand the flew over the carcass. It stung a lot however I held in the pain.
I waited for all of them to leave the carcass, when they did I got up into a crouch and creeped along to where I thought the boulder that I previously threw the stone at was. I felt for the stone, nothing I moved a little more forward. Still I felt nothing, I spun around with my arms out wide flailing trying to find the boulder, my hands smacked hard against it and I let out a squeal. I heard a shift in the distance, they had heard me. I kept blinking and tried to clear my eyes. I could barely see due to the water that built up in my eyes after the sand blinded me. I wiped the water away. It turns out I had just missed to boulder and I was right behind it. Maybe the beasts didn't see me.
I poked my head out slightly but just enough for my left eye to see around the corner. One of the beasts was heading my way slowly but surely. Maybe they hadn't seen me then. I thought for a way out of this. If I ran now that one would see me then alert the others or maybe hunt me down solo. Either way I'm sure I would die. I looked at the water to my right. Maybe I could out swim them. They seem to be more like land animals. Or I could wait for the beast to either get close enough for me to lose it round the boulder and into the water or I could out swim them or I could wait for it to turn around a sneak into the water. "Option number 4" I told myself. I watched the beast with my left eye, it didn't seem to be interested in turning around and it was getting closer and closer soon it would be upon me. With option number one I would have a head start on the beasts and I would be more efficient in the water so I could escape easier. However I don't know what lurks in those waters. Option number two would be more stealthy and by slipping into the water it wouldn't alert anything else that wanted to hunt me and the beasts might not see me.
Option number two it is then. The beast got closer and closer, I went to the water side of the boulder to ready myself. As it made its way towards me I realised it was coming towards the water side. I went to the left side then waited as it approached the water side I shifted around the rock. I then heard the soft sinking of feat into the sand, then a kick up. There was a thud just above me. The beast had jumped on top of the rock. I knew it would spot me, so I sprinted past it from below and dived into the water. Thank the world that this water was clean and clear. My eye were cleared off any grains of sand left on them. I swam fiercely downwards then forwards a bit a bit more and I waited. Conserving my energy while using it I stayed still in the water, motionless. I heard a crash and a yelp in the water. Then it was followed by several others. I turned in the water and saw the beasts. As I figured these beast were slow and ineffective in the water. They swam almost like dogs but without front paws they were much slower. They started to gain on me as I sat in the water. Some looked down in the water, eyeing me up. I looked at there frightening jaws. They had many small teeth sharp as vampires used for holding down there prey and tearing through them. I didn't want to experience that so I quickly swam forward. Deeper into the ocean, I wanted to swim up for air but they were still to close. My lungs tightened and I knew I had to get up soon. I swam quickly towards the deeper part of the ocean.
