I woke up shivering, not feeling much different than before. Just more drained. Voices in the background caused me to observe my surroundings. A rubbled..tower area? And...
What are those?
Eyes in the dark. Glowing almost. Snarling is heard in random places all around me. The voices were louder though.
"Oh, she's awake! She's awake!!" A broken, high-pitched squeaked out in front of me. My eyes widen in shock.
A doll? Where am I?
It flies behind me and I quickly turned around from my place on the stone floor.
A tall woman in a white dress with a black hat stands there, glaring at a shorter man with greasy hair peeking out from under his hand. I spot a grotesque-looking creature staring at me curiously. Further in the back is a figure in full bad, the doll from before floating next to her. And in the center is the blonde woman from before. Her piercing eyes burned holes through me.
What's going on? Who are these people? Why am I chained up? Is this even real? Am I alive?
"That's enough, the two of you. The human has awakened. No need to overwhelm her now if she's going to belong to one of you." She spoke strictly, quickly silencing the two....people?
Are they even people at this point?
They all turn their heads to me and I immediately become self-conscious. I shrink down on myself, trying to blend into the darkness to no avail. I could even feel the black-clothed figure's stare. The tall woman steps closer as a claw suddenly appears from her nails. She reaches down and lifts my chin with her nail. Her eyes were a stunning gold, her skin unusually pale, and dark red lips. I would've admired her beauty if I wasn't in this situation.
"You. What's your business here? How did you find this village?" A smooth but stern voice came from her.
"I-I was just visiting by...not here! Just somewhere near. My driver he- crashed." I quickly spat out.
She stares at me before turning around, seeming satisfied with my explanation. They sit down and stare at the blonde woman. She hadn't broken her gaze at me. Not a single time. She turns her head to the left, to the fully clothed figure, and nods her head. The man immediately gets up and heads in my direction, stretching his hand out as metal flies to it. I quickly back away as he pulls his fist back but it's no use.
Darkness again.
*House Beneviento*
It's all darkness still. No dreaming. No nothing.
I'm beginning to feel a deep pain in my head. It's pulsing violently. Exhaustion fills my whole body, ache in various areas. My eyes felt like marbles, whose curtains I couldn't open. Maybe if I...
Darkness. Then the pain returns. This time my eyes feel less heavy. I open them slightly.
A dim yellowish light fills my eyes as it reveals the rest of the room. A wall to my left, a window to my right, a small wardrobe on the wall in front of me. A small space. The curtains are pulled over the windows, unlikely to be blocking the sun as gusts of wind are heard from outside. More likely to be a snowstorm. I get up slowly, wincing at the pain everywhere. Cringing at the pain in my head.
It seemed like whatever house I was in was old. The designs hinted at something about 100 years ago, and so did the peeling wall.
Did they move me again?
This time I wasn't chained up. So I stood up but quickly leaned onto the wall for support. My legs were trembling and my head felt extremely dizzy. As if I was spinning in circles for hours. I reached up and felt a bandage wrapped around my head. If they knocked me out they had done it with blunt force.
So much for leaving me out of experiments. Whatever. At least I'm alive.
I step outside. It was nice for an old house. Most of the hallway was blocked by packages that were coated in dust. As I walked down the stairs I took note of the multiple paintings. I stopped as I came across a huge painting of a beautiful woman. She held the doll from before on her lap. Her features were unworldly. They fit her perfectly and were able to describe her as a whole even though I hadn't met her.
Is this the same clothed person from before? The clothes look the same except for the missing veil.
The house was in good shape, considering how old it must be. The wooden floorboards creaked slightly under me as I wandered the house. It was empty. Not much sign of life. I felt a certain coldness in the air despite it being much warmer than outside. It was a lonely sort of coldness.
If anyone does live here, it doesn't feel like it.
As I explore further I come across a small area that I assume to be a living room. A small cup of tea reveals that someone is here. Another, full, cup of tea tells me that they're not alone. I hear footsteps and my neck snaps to it.
Could it be I'm in that woman's house? Is she Donna?
A small thump from above catches my attention and I quickly go back to the room I woke up in. On the bed is a maid uniform that seems to be from around the 1920s. I pick up a small note on it.
'Please put this on after showering and when you're ready to begin your job. Once you're dressed please go down into the basement and prepare lunch in the kitchen.'
I'll be damned if they think I'm going to stay here. For now, I'm going to play along and get to know the area before planning anything. I need to find out more information about this place and what's going on.
It takes me a while before I find the shower, towels already folded for me to use. I was a bit surprised that she had gone out of her way to do this. It wasn't anything crazy though, but it was still something.
How did she manage to do all this without me noticing?
After about an hour of washing the grime, dirt, sweat, and blood off of me I changed into my new uniform. It was surprisingly comfortable. But I guess it made sense since I'd likely be doing a lot of work. Too bad I wasn't planning on getting used to it. I step into 'my' room again and find another note on my bed.
'Use the door next to the stairs to get into the elevator and down to the basement. Explore as needed but do not go into the survival room. It will be locked so don't try to open it.'
I wonder what's in there for her to lock it and to tell me not to go in. Maybe she does experiments too.
I walk downstairs and open the door. There was an elevator just like the note said. I cautiously step in and press the button. A shake caused my heart to drop before the elevator steadied and carried me down.
