we're all in line for the concert, anticipation buzzing in the air. hailey still hasn't told us which artist we're about to see, she just revealed that it's going to be a one night only acoustic set. we're waiting for charlie and his date because he wanted to meet him alone first before introducing him to the rest of us.

"any sign of charlie yet?" el asks, scanning the queue.

"not yet," i reply, glancing at my phone to check the time.

just a second later, charlie arrives with nate. he's beaming, and i can tell he's already really into this guy.

"hey guys, this is nate," charlie says, introducing him to hailey, el, and me.

"hi, i'm amy. nice to meet you!" i say, going for a hug.

"nice to meet you too, amy," nate replies with a smile.

just then, i hear a familiar voice behind me. "amy?"

i turn around to find lucy, my coworker, standing there with wide eyes. "amy, hey!"

"oh, hey lucy! how's it going?" i ask, surprised to see her.

"good, good. i'm here to write a review, though i wish i could just enjoy the night," she replies. then her eyes shift to charlie, and she freezes for a moment. "charlie? is that you?"

charlie's face turns red. "uh, hey lucy."

lucy's eyes widen even more. "i didn't expect to see you here."

"yeah, small world," charlie says, clearly embarrassed.

"how do you two know each other?" i ask, even more surprised now.

lucy's cheeks turn pink. "we, uhm, went on a date once."

charlie quickly turns to nate, his voice calming. "it was just one date, ages ago. nothing more."

lucy nods, her phone ringing. "yeah, it was just one date. nothing serious." she steps away to answer her call.

i turn to charlie in disbelief. "wait, that is the lucy? i knew about the date but didn't know it was her!"

"don't look at me like that, i didn't know either that it's the lucy who you work with!" charlie brushes it off. "can we please just talk about something else?"

hailey, sensing the awkwardness, jumps in. "so, nate, have you watched gossip girl?"

nate looks confused. "uhm, no, i haven't..."

"you should," hailey says with a grin. "there's a character named nate too. he's kinda boring though. not that you're boring! i mean, i just met you, but you seem way more interesting. do you like tv shows? what's your favorite? do you think pineapples belong on pizza?"

charlie tries to calm her down. "jesus, hailey, give him a break."

nate chuckles, clearly amused by hailey's stream of chatter. "uh, i like tv shows, sure. my favorite is probably 'breaking bad.' and i actually like pineapple on pizza."

"you do?" el asks, shocked. "well, charlie, i think you just found your soulmate."

charlie wants to say something, but hailey is faster than him.

"breaking bad is awesome!" she exclaims, getting back to nate's answer. "i always thought jesse was kinda hot, in a troubled-bad-boy way, you know? and pineapple on pizza is such a controversial topic. some people get really heated about it." she glances at charlie. "but hey, live and let live, right?"

nate laughs. "yeah, exactly."

i chuckle too. hailey just says whatever's on her mind, but that just makes her her.
