(At school)
The warning bell rings as (y/n) and Toby walk up to school and drop off their bikes.
"Say what we saw wasn't just an illusion and they really did move it." Toby says taking his helmet off. "How could we possibly find it?"
"Well, I don't think we're gonna be lucky enough to stumble on it again, Tobes." (y/n) replies also taking off her helmet. "But one thing's for sure. That curator did not move it by herself."
"Maybe she had help!" Toby suggests, "Other changelings, perhaps?"
Before (y/n) can respond she spots Jim and Clara getting out go their aunts car.
"Oh, no. Clara." (y/n) says immediately looking away as Jim walks up and joins them.
"Clara? A changling?" Toby asks obviously confused.
"What?" Jim asks, very concerned about the conversation he had just walked in on.
"No. When I thought I was going to die, I stopped missed the last two rehearsals, and Clara can be scary when she's mad." (y/n) says keeping her head down and quickly tried to escape, but it was no use.
"(y/n)! There you are!" Clara called out after the girl.
"Hey! What's up Nuñez?" Toby says trying to distract her, but it doesn't work.
"Hey Colby." She says not looking as she keeps on walking, making a b-line fore (y/n).
"It's Toby. Not that it matters. Even though we agreed to get Jim and (y/n) together." Toby mutters the last part under his breath.
"What did you say?" Jim asks barely catching what he said.
"Nothing!" Toby says quickly before running off to class before Jim can interrogate him more.
"You've been looking for me?" (y/n) asks, fearing the wrath that's about to come from Clara, but surprisingly the girls voice is gentle.
"You didn't run into Ms. Janeth yet, did you?" Clara asks her.
"Is she mad I couldn't make rehearsal yesterday? Something kinda came up." (y/n) says and flashbacks of Draal beating her into the ground fly before her eyes, quickly followed my images of Nomura also trying to kill her. "Maddie filled in. That's what understudies are for, right?"
"Uh, you haven't heard? Maddie isn't the understudy anymore. You are." Clara tells her. "She's tired of you never showing up, so she made Maddie Romeo."
"Come on!" (y/n) says. "But I memorized all my lines!" It's true, she had forced herself to stay up even after Trollhunting to learn all of her lines due to how much rehearsal she had been missing.
"Doesn't matter." Clara says. "Ms. Janeth is on the warpath for you. I'd watch out." And she turns and walks to class.
"I have algebra with her, too." (y/n) says to herself sadly. She had always hated math, but with Ms. Janeth being made at her the next lesson was bound to be a disaster. (y/n) turned to Jim, who had watched from off to the side, waiting for her to be finish her conversation so they could walk to class. "Why didn't you tell me? Have you been replaced too?"
"One, I didn't know until this morning." Jim said to the girl as he walked closer to her. "And two, No I haven't. I've been able to go to enough rehearsal so that Ms. Janeth isn't mad at me." Jim pauses and looks down at the girl in front of him. "But if it makes you feel any better, I would much rather you be my Romeo than Maddie."
"That's really sweet of you." (y/n) says laughing. But she stops as the bell rings signaling the start of class which they were both now late for. And of course, as if it couldn't get any worse, it was Algebra with Ms. Janeth. (y/n) quickly grabs Jim's hand and runs with him to class.
The pair sneak quietly into class headed for the back row where they normally sit.
"As it is true for any such equation. For instance, let's take 3x." Ms. Janeth says writing on the white board. She hears Jim and (y/n) sneaking into class and addresses them. "So, you won't come to rehearsal, Ms. (l/n), but you arrive to class. I saved you the best seat, front row."
(y/n) sheepishly stands up and walks to the front of the class and takes a seat. Jim also stood and took the seat beside her, not wanting to leave her alone.
"As I was saying," Ms. Janeth continues. "every algebraic equation requires balance. Not unlike, say, actors in an ensemble!" She says pointedly at (y/n) making her chuckle nervously. "For instance," Ms. Janeth returns to the board and begins writing. But instead of writing in a normal manner, she starts angrily attacking the board with the pen. "every piece of this equation plays an important role. That is, unless the variable x is a zero, x has no role. x doesn't show up. x let's the equation down. Then, the entire play-- I mean, equation-- falls apart! It becomes impossible!" Ms. Janeth finally stops to breath and points her pen at (y/n). "Ms. (l/n), how would you solve this mathematical problem?"
(y/n) tilts her head to look at the board which is nothing but scribbles at this point. She couldn't believe she literally was fighting for her life, trying to save people and the world, and now she was being compared to a math problem.
(After class)
(y/n) grabs her bike and begins walking out of school. She was exhausted from school work.
"Hey," Jim walks up behind her. "I'm sorry about math class. I know that was a little much from Ms. Janeth."
"It's okay," (y/n) responds, "I mean, it's not your fault that I didn't show up and now am the understudy for the show."
"That's not fair, you were literally fighting for you life." Jim says trying to make her feel better.
"Well, now I have a mountain of math homework to do for her, and I don't understand any of it." (y/n) says putting her head in her hands.
"You know, I've been able to keep on top of the work recently, why don't you come to my place and we can study together?" Jim offers.
(y/n)'s heart gave a flutter. "Wow, Really? I mean-- thank you! Are you sure though? I've screwed up the play and I've been dragging you into all this Trollhunting stuff--"
Jim cuts her off. "Yes I'm sure. I already told you, I'd much rather do the play with you than Maddie. And I actually like all the Trollhunting stuff."
(y/n) smiled gratefully and pulled him into a hug, "Thank you for helping me."
"Of course." Jim says rubbing her shoulder before pulling away. "See you at six tomorrow night?" He asked.
"Yeah, totally." (y/n) says and Jim nods quickly and runs off to Clara who's waiting for him. "See you at six..."
