Connected - Bang Chan

Bang Chan was now the most famous K-pop star. But to you, he was just your cute neighbor you had grown up with as kids.

You were best friends once, before Chan moved to Korea to pursue his music. Now your lives were worlds apart. You were a university student in Australia while Chan was constantly busy with his band, Stray Kids, touring, having concerts, etc. At times, you find yourself missing him, blankly scrolling through his insta account. You still sometimes chat, occasionally. But it doesn't feel like how it was before.

Yet every time Chan came home between schedules, he made it his priority to see you. When he's in Australia, you both spend so much time together, that it gets hard for you to let him go back. The way his eyes crinkled when he smiled at you. How he still treated you like the girl next door. A lingering hug that lasted just a beat too long. All this makes you wish that he didn't have to be a K-pop idol, but you know it's too selfish of you to ask that from him.

You knew, somewhere along the way, you started developing feelings for him that went far beyond friendship. But you always brushed them aside. Chan was one of the biggest celebrities. And you have read the scandals - his entertainment company forbade him from dating, threatening to sue him for breach of contract. It was an impossible fantasy.

For his part, Chan couldn't stop thinking about you. You were the one person who knew him before the fame, who treated him as just a normal guy. In your presence, he could escape the pressures of celebrity life. But he knew getting involved with you could jeopardize everything he had worked so hard for.

Still, with every encounter, the tension between you both grew. A casual brush of hands while walking sent sparks through you, and Chan wasn't immune to this either. The soft lilt of your laugh made his heart flutter. You both were falling for each other, despite your best efforts.

One night, while stargazing together on the roof like you used to as kids, you impulsively leaned in and kissed Chan. For a moment, the world fell away as your lips met.

When you finally broke apart, reality came crashing back. Chan looked at you with a pained expression. "We can't..." he said hoarsely. "You know what will happen if the company finds out."

You nodded, tears shining in your eyes as you realized your forbidden love could never be. "I know," you whispered. "But I'll always wonder what if..."

"Don't!" Chan says, moving away from you. "Don't finish that sentence. Don't give me hope. We can't change anything now." And with that, he got up and left, leaving you to shiver under the cold sky, alone on the roof.

A few months later, Stray Kids drop their new album, 'SKZ-REPLAY'. You always listened to their comebacks. You put on your earphones and play the album. The first song that fills your ears makes you think of him immediately. Your eyes well up with tears as the song goes...
