She didn’t know what she felt, but she knew her life was nothing but misery now.

Her heart raced when Asma received a call and pulled out a beautiful smile. In that moment, Umaimah knew her misery had begun.

And she wasn’t wrong.

“You are now officially Mrs. Asad Yabo.”

The whole room erupted in celebration, though Umaimah could tell that Fadimatu’s enthusiasm was fake, a mere facade.

“Ayyiriri!” The chorus yodelling began

Instead of feeling the joy that most couples feel when they marry, she felt suffocated. Asad made sure no special events were arranged, but after all, this was the wedding of the only son of Alh. Yabo. It couldn’t be boring, could it?

An event was planned for today and the day after.

The groom and his friends returned home to take pictures with the bride and prepare to head to the event center. Asad glanced at her and flashed a smirk.

“Dear wife, you look even more beautiful than words can express.” He whispered.

He held her hand, and flashes from cameras illuminated the moment. The pictures were taken—some with Hajja and Hajiya, some with Yakudima and the villagers, and even with Asma. Then, they all set off for the event center.

“Nabeel, please, I just want to see her. I’m not asking to bring her home or even talk to her. I just want to see her. The card mentioned events today and tomorrow. Let’s go.” Yazid pleaded, he was more than desperate to see his younger sister and also the uncanny resemblance between Nini and her.

Nabeel sighed. He didn’t understand why Yazid was acting so emotional. Even if she was his sister, this was getting out of hand.

“Yazid, we can only get in if we have access cards, and we don’t have them.”

“Zainab” Yazid commented.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yazid, no.”

“Nabeel, yes.”

“No.”

“Yazid, you know she’s going to ask me for something again, and I still have to go to dinner with her. I already—”

“Nabeel, for my sake, please. I beg you.”

With no other choice, Nabeel pulled out his phone and redialed her number.

“I need access cards to the wedding event,” he said the moment she answered.

“How many?”

“Two.”

“You’ll be staying longer than planned at the dinner, Nabeel.”

“Okay, where should I pick them up?”

“Meet me at the wedding venue.”

They drove to GALAXY CORE HALLS, one of the largest event centers in Dasuki, probably number one.

There she was, waiting. Nabeel walked up, grabbed the cards, and all three entered the hall. The bride and groom hadn’t arrived yet, so they found seats at the back. They didn’t want Asad spotting them at his own wedding.

“Yazid, I’m tired of waiting. It’s been an hour already.” Nabeel complained, hoping Yazid would relent.

Yazid didn’t respond. All he knew was that he had to see his sister today, regardless of how long it took.
