Will could practically hear the words tumble through his head; each line formed and crumbled within seconds as he watched out the window of the plane.

"The mirrored surface
A skin; a shield"

No grouping was enough to make a full poem. They just came in snippets that he almost cursed his father for.

He peaked out the window again-- this was the first time on his whole trip that he could actually see the ground without the clouds reflecting his father's chariot's beams back at him. (He had cursed his dad for that every time he was blinded by sliding open the window cover.)

"The fleeting words
Attack and flee."

Dam. Will missed his boyfriend. Nico couldn't come on the plane with him, for obvious reasons, and his boyfriend wouldn't be able to meet with him in Texas for another few days.

Will had to be there early for his mother, and he had also banned Nico from shadowtraveling so much in such a short time period-- hence the solo flight.

Will did not like solo flights.

"The way
my heart stops and
my stomach drops
as the plane takes flight;
oh so similar
to his final fight"

Now wait a second. "Final fight"? What the fuck did that mean. The words had just come to him-- as poetry often does-- but why "final".

Will needed the plane to land now so he could call Nico. He actually needed the plane to land yesterday so he would be able to check up on his boyfr--

Will suddenly saw the seat belt sign go on. "Passageners, please stay calm. We are experiencing some mild turbulence.  Flight attendants please return to your seats and fasten your seat belts."

This is fine. A totally normal occurrence! Will had no reason to worry as he looked back out the window to notice the plane was in a much, much too steep of a position.

Nico was having a normal day at camp. Chiron had asked him to help with the memorial that had been built recently. The camp had come together to try and represent all campers equally, but Nico had been asked to do an official service to "anoint it" as a "proper hero memorial" or something like that. Nico wasn't sure, but he did know that planning and performing this ceremony was the only thing between his vacation with Will in which he would get to meet the mortal part of Will's family.

Will's mom had paid for Will's ticket, and she has said "I need my boy here ASAP. I have somethin' important and urgent for us to deal with. Family stuff-- though I am sure you'll be let in on that soon 'nough." The wink had been picked up on through the Iris message screen, and Will had blushed such a bright red. Nico had thought it was cute before he realized the implications and felt his cheeks warm too.

Still, Nico wished he could have gone. Planning a mass funeral-memorial service for those heros who had died-- both close enough for bodies to be properly recovered and those too far away-- was exhausting. He just wanted his small break that The Seven had all been offered. He deserved it too.

Still, this was important to send off the dead to his father's realm. He had heard rumors of a spike of "ghost sightings" online whenever he visited Sally Jackson for his weekly cookies. Hopefully, a memorial would help put them to rest.
