Frayed bonds

The dilemma

Hey people, did you not like the last part? I think I messed up with Virat's character and I feel really bad now.

Rohit woke up with a heavy head to  whispering voices. He opened his eyes with great difficulty to see Ritika and Anushka standing there.

He rubbed his eyes and realised Virat was sleeping in a sitting position and Rohit's head was in his lap.

He immediately sat straight and poked Virat in the arm. That brought everyone's attention to them. Virat stirred in his sleep, mumbling, "I am here Ro don't worry!"

Rohit's eyes widened and he immediately went out of the room, Anushka and Ritika sighed looking towards each other.

Ritika nodded, seeing Anushka look utterly helpless. Ritika went behind Rohit and Anushka moved forward to wake Virat up.

"Bubs wake up!" Anushka shook Virat and he opened his eyes to see a concerned Anushka looking down at him.

He hugged her tight, "I missed you nushkie." He said his voice heavy with sleep and emotions.

Anushka hugged him back, "I missed you too Vi tell me what happened?" She asked.

Virat sat back and looked around, "Where's Ro? Is he ok?" He asked.

"He's fine you tell me." Anushka asked more firmly now, Virat nodded and told her everything breaking down in tears midway.

Anushka's eyes widened, "Vi did you say all that for real?" She asked, utterly shocked.

Virat just looked down and nodded meekly, "I am really very ashamed of what I did Nush, I never meant any of those."

"Did you try to apologise to him?" Anushka asked.

Virat looked at her with uncertainty, "I tried to but he completely shut me out." He said.

Anushka shook her head, "Obviously he'll, if I was in his shoes I would have beaten you to pulp." She yelled glaring at him.

Virat looked like a puppy who had been kicked and Anushka visibly melted.

Anushka immediately went towards him and pulled him in a hug, caressing his hair.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have shouted." She said and Virat shook his head, "I deserve it." He said.

"You probably do but not from me, my brother will do all of that. But you'll need to grovel hard." Anushka said laughing.

Virat just whined, "Where's that brother of yours?" He asked, absent mindedly.

But he sat up straight as soon as he remembered Rohit's yesterday's condition.

"He's out with Ritsy, she's also asking him about what happened." Anushka said.

Virat audibly gasped, "WHAT HE SHOULDN'T BE GIVEN STRESS." He yelled.

Anushka frowned, "What's happening Vi? Why are you overreacting-" She started to ask but couldn't continue as Virat ran out.

Ritika sat besides Rohit and passed him a cup of coffee, "What happened Ro?" she asked softly after taking a sip of his coffee.

Rohit sighed and said, "Y'all will not stop till you get to know now would you?" he asked giving Ritika a side eye.

"Obviously not my dear husband, learnt from the best." Ritika said indicating towards him and laughing.

Rohit also smiled and Ritika felt a huge bout of relief seeing the corner of his eyes crinkle, "I missed you Ritsy." Rohit said hugging Ritika.

"I am here now baby, tell me what happened?" Ritika asked, willing herself to calm down as she heard Rohit's voice cracking.

Rohit pulled back and nodded looking in the eyes of the one person he was sure will always love him, unconditionally.

So he told her everything, what Virat said, how Rohit reacted, everything. He broke down into tears halfway through.

Ritika rubbed his back trying to calm him down, "I am really not deserving of anything good, why are you even enduring me till now." he said looking down.

Ritika held Rohit's face and made him look at her, "What do you see in my eyes Ro?" She asked softly but firmly.

Rohit looked at her with his hazy vision, because of the tears, "Love!" He exclaimed softly. Ritika's face broke out into a smile and that made Rohit smile through his tears too.

"Exactly Ro! I love you and that's why I am here with you. I am actually very selfish. You could have anyone but I want you all to myself." Ritika said wiping the tears on Rohit's cheeks.

"I also want you and only you." Rohit said firmly as he pecked her. They sat in a comfortable silence for a while before Ritika broke it.

"Tell me one thing Ro, did Vi try to apologize to you?"  Ritika asked, "I don't know if he wanted to apologize or no." Rohit said.

"What do you mean?" Ritika asked, her eyebrows knotted in confusion. 

"I just started being indifferent towards him, like we had decided." Rohit said and shrugged, before Ritika could say anything Rohit continued.

"He doesn't care Ritsy, he himself said that he'll never think about me or whatever happened and I'll regret it till the end of the times." He said.

"Of course he cares Ro, you know Anu told me he asks about you to her daily." Ritika said.

"He does?" Rohit asked, looking at Ritika with a shocked expression. Ritika shook her head, "Obviously, and he wouldn't have tried to reach out to if he had not." she said.

"And you know how he is right? He doesn't mean half of the things he says in anger." Ritika concluded.

"But his words did hurt me Ritsy and he hasn't yet directly even said sorry to me." Rohit said.

Their conversation got interrupted by Virat who came running and hugged Rohit.

"Ro are you ok? I was so worried." Virat asked, panting.

Rohit and Ritika looked at Anushka who just shrugged.

Roit begrudgingly started to pat Virat's back but ended up hugging him despite his anger.

"I am ok." Rohit mumbled and pushed Virat slightly away from himself.
