[Jean POV]

The squad Captain had assigned certain members to cook each night. Tonight was Jeans shift, and he was paired with Marco.

"How do we always somehow get put together?" Jean asks Marco as he ties a white cloth onto his head to keep his hair back.

"I honestly have no clue but... it's nice" Marco responds, as he too ties a white cloth onto this head.

Jean nods at Marco before looking for the recipe they had been left for the night. What they were to cook were omelettes and baked potato's

"Well Sasha is gonna love this. we got baked potato tonight" Jean looked up at Marco as he commented on the recipe before instructing him what to grab "we will need a bowl, some spoons, uhhh that tray over there and a pan. "

Marco nods before grabbing the items Jean Requested. Whilst Marco did this, Jean grabbed the eggs, butter, cheese and spinach for the omelettes.

"Alright so first off we gotta beat the eggs in a bowl, can you do that Marco? I'll quickly cook the spinach"

"Yep!!" Marco replies. He cracked the eggs into the bowl and began beating them, just very messily. As he did this, Jean quickly cooked up the spinach and set it to the side and looked over at Marco. Jean took note of his struggle and lack of technique.

"You need some help, Marco?" Jean asked

"Yeah... I don't really know what I'm doing here." Marco sighed

"Not an issue" Jean smiles and approached Marco. He stood behind Marco and held his arms. "So, you've got to do it like this" Jean looked over Marco's shoulder as he helped him create a certain movement "Alright now speed it up a bit" He instructed Marco.

"T-thanks Jean..." Marco stuttered out, a slight blush on his face.

"Oh right. sorry for getting so close." Jean mutters, assuming the blush on Marco's face was just embarrassment.

They both continued on making the meal for their squad. Jean doing most of the work as he knew how to cook these things. Marco was mainly just learning and helping here and there. Eventually they finished. A few mistakes were made throughout the process, but the meal still came out edible.  Marco carried out the baked potato and Jean brought out the omelettes.

Sasha was sat at the table practically drooling as the food was laid out. However, she held herself back. The moment everyone grabbed their share, she took basically everything that was left and gobbled it up like she was on death row, and this was her final meal.

"So, how's the meal?" Marco asked his comrades sat at the table.

"Enjoyable" The Captain spoke.

"Great.' Connie mentioned, his mouth full.

"Amazing!! is there more?" Sasha drools as she finished her plate.

"Uh no not really" Jean spoke up as he ate his dinner. "Also, thanks for helping Marco. you did really well for someone who hasn't made these things before. I mean they aren't hard but it's still impressive you didn't make heaps of mistakes and only a couple" The comment seemed a little back-handed, but he meant it in a very nice way. Jean was better at complimenting himself rather than others.

"Oh uh, your welcome Jean." Marco muttered.

Eventually most of the squad filed out of the dining hall, which left Connie, Marco, Sasha and Jean.

"So how's the first few days been for you all?" Marco asked, a kind tone in his voice.

"Easy" Jean scoffed.

"Alright" Both Sasha and Connie chirped in before turning to each other and laughing. "Jinx!" they both yelled again "aw shucks JINX!!" They yet again both said. They were in perfect sync with one another.

"What the hell?" Jean muttered as the 2 kept trying to jinx each other. "I think I've had enough of their bullshit for the day, night Marco" Jean stood and patted Marco on the shoulder before walking out to the squad's barracks for the night.

[Marco POV]

Marco smiled up at Jean as he patted his shoulder before walking away. As this happened, a slight blush filled his cheeks. He wasn't sure why. "Shit.." Marco whispered to himself. Sasha and Connie were still trying to jinx one another. It was like they were the same person. Marco stood from the table and walked outside.

It was dark out. He looked up at the sky and at the stars.

"Why do I keep blushing when Jean gets too close.. this didn't use to happen.." Marco spoke to himself as he stood outside by himself. "Maybe it's just embarrassment.. urggh but what would I be embarrassed about??!" He whined

Marco continued to look up at the sky as if it would give him the answer to his problems, which clearly it would not. He eventually went back inside and towards the barracks for the night.
