Chapter 2 - MP's or Survey Corps? -

[Jean POV]

It had been a few days since the body clean up and tonight was when the cadets would choose their regiments.

"Jean, are you sure you're picking the Survey Corps?" Marco asked politely.

"Yes.. I'm sure." Jean stood his ground. And yet he seemed unsure. He talked up being an MP for years on end, and his chance was finally here, having graduated in the top 10 of the 104th Training Squad.

"Alright then." Marco responded

The 2 boys made their way to stand in front if the massive stage with the rest of the 104th. There, they waited for Commander Erwin Smith of the Survey Corps to speak.

A few minutes pass, and onto the stage, the commander arrived. He stared into the crowd and looked around before taking a deep breath.

He began his speech disclosing information like Eren Jaeger and his basement in Shiganshina. He then went on to discuss the difficulties.

"Before we can reach the afford mentioned cellar in Shiganshina, another problem must be dealt with. We first must retake wall Maria. Of course, this is much easier said than done."

Behind the commander, 2 Survey Corps members held up a map.

"Now that the gate at Trost has been rendered inaccessible, we will be forced to stage future operations from the Karranes district further east."

The commander's speech continued on for a few minutes. He discussed their plan and how they lost over 60% of their men in the last 4 years. As the speech concluded, he waited patiently to see who had left the crowd and who was willing to join the Survey Corps.

Jean stood beside Marco. "Jeez... don't make me change my mind now." Jean muttered to himself

"It's okay to change your mind, you know. Nobody will think less of you for sticking to your original plan." Marco whispered to him.

Jean just nodded, and he kept his ground. He pushed through his fear and stayed within the decreasing crowd before the stage. By the time everyone had gone, there were not many left in the crowd. Jean looked around to see people like Reiner, Bertholdt, Ymir, Krista, Connis, Sasha, Armin, Mikasa, and Eren. He wasn't surprised the last 3 had stayed, but a few others were a surprise.

The commander stood in front of them and saluted. His right hand was in a fist over his heart, while his left arm was behind his back.

"GIVE YOUR HEARTS" Commander Erwin Smith yelled, with power in his voice.

The crowd returned the salute.

Later that night, Jean returned to the cadet barracks with Marco.

"Are you sure you made the right choice staying with me?" Jean asked Marco. He didn't understand why Marco would just abandon his dream of serving the king in the Military Police for him.

"I think I did." Marco replied. His sentence was brief, and he didn't elaborate on why.

"After tonight, we will be proper soldiers." Marco mentioned

"Yeah. The hard work paid off, didn't it. I suppose I'll see you tomorrow then..." Jean said. He seemed to be less cocky after the retaking of Trost.

"Goodnight Jean"

"Goodnight Marco"

I could not be bothered writing out Erwins long ass speech. I love him so much but GOD he's a yapper.
