There, In the dark abyss that was space was a single spaceship floating amongst what seemed like nothingness. The nothing that would stretch on forever it seemed like. Meanwhile within the ship there was a Pilot, and her friend. The pilot, Phionna, looked up to the stars and was mesmerized by them.
The stars, the giant great beings so filled with more light than a thousand lamps always seemed so powerful. The way they just sat there in the endless masses of space, for years, producing light and sometimes, very few and rare times did they help plants produce life. That's what Phionna loved most about space, the stars, they felt so immune to destruction and death. They also felt so much bigger than she felt she was and would ever dream to be.
Phionna sat there mesmerized by the stars and the blackness around her, eyes filled with wonder and curiosity. The silence was captivating as well, mainly because it was peaceful, a lot more peaceful than how things were at home, back on planet Earth. While Phionna sat there mesmerized by the darkness and space, her mind started to drift elsewhere, that elsewhere being her home planet.
She didn't necessarily miss it, or did she hate it. She wanted a home for herself, a home that wasn't dying and wasn't crusty and dry as it is. A home with life bouncing at every corner. A home with air and a home where they wouldn't have to live in artificial bubbles created to produce light and air. She hated the conditions of her home and that made her feel like she was suffering.
She was suffering to a degree, and suffocating too. Suffocating in the silence and burden it was to fight against time and a dying planet that no longer welcomed humanity.
Meanwhile Phionna was deep in though, her companion started to stir awake as he was sleeping in the seat next to her. Unlike most space ships, this one usually only required one pilot to fly it safely so that left Max to be able to attend to other matters. Such as sleeping, and such. The ship itself was somewhat big, as it contained some room for bathrooms as well as room for necessities like food and water.
Essentially just storage space. The ship also had built-in Artificial Intelligence but it usually didn't bother or speak to Max or Phionna, it just roared back to life and explained most of the functions of the ship and then tended to the more important tasks to help the ship be habitable to its new owners despite being stolen. However, for the quiet A.I it was also very sassy and often obnoxious, well at least to Phionna, the A.I was mostly obnoxious but in the end she still loved to interact with the thing.
Max would open his eyes, then stretch his arms out, he would then yawn and turn towards Phionna with a kind smile plastered on his face. “Hi Phionna! What are we doing today? Same as yesterday?...” Max asked, a bit gloomy at the possibility of it all being the same as how it had been for a few months, silence, the emptiness of space that didn't fulfill him, as well as no planet in sight for miles.
Max groaned at this thought but decided to stay on a bit more positive and enthusiastic side of things, like how Phionna usually is. He always wondered how Phionna could be so positive and have a good look-out for when things turned into disasters. Max being the shy creature that he was, and the one considered to be the runt compared to Phionna. He also never liked to get into fights or any trouble at all. He just liked keeping to himself and reading his books.
Max would then wait for a response from Phionna which came slow as she was still gazing out at the emptiness of space. “Uhh..Maybe? Just chin up Max! It ain't gonna be that bad! We got a hang of this too! We're going to find a planet!” Phionna said with a positive and cherry tone like usual.
Max however wasn't buying into any of this and was still quite skeptical. He even made a sort of concerned and skeptical look. “Alright if you say so..” He would quietly respond. Max was usually quiet just like the A.I, however, unlike the A.I, Max usually stood up for things he felt should be more logically based than just based on emotions.
