Rhea's eyes returned to their normal stormy grey as we headed back around to the parking lot. She turned to me, her expression serious. "Corissa, we need to talk," she said, her tone leaving no room for argument. "What happened back there?"
"What do you mean?"
"You were struggling," Amy points out.
"No, I wasn't!" I disagreed.
Rhea sighed, but I could see she agreed with Amy. "Don't get me wrong. You're strong and fast in battle. But you're so weak." Ouch. "You struggled with those men back there. You struggle a lot against more than one threat, actually."
"Maybe it's because it's more than one threat?" I said defensively.
"You're not maximising your potential," she continued. "And you don't know how to control your power."
"I do," I challenged, fire flaming in my hands. She glanced at it and chuckled. Amy does the same. "Perhaps when you're angry," Rhea commented. "You need to learn how to control your powers better."
I frowned, my pride stung by her words. "I know how to fight, Rhea."
"You know how to fight, but don't know how to harness your full strength." She clarified. I halted, facing her. She does the same, her gaze unwavering. "Let me teach you. Let me help you become the demon you are meant to be."
I hesitated, glancing at Amy. She nodded encouragingly at me and I sighed in defeat, my frustration giving way to a grudging acceptance. Rhea was right. I had been struggling, and if I wanted to protect Amy and survive this journey, I needed to be better. "Fine. Show me how to control my powers or whatever."
She smiled, and we hurried the rest of the way to the truck. Amy wasted no time climbing into the back while Rhea and I hopped into the front seats. She started the engine and merged into the heavy traffic before glancing back at us through the rearview mirror.
"Aimes, how are you doing?"
"Fine," Amy responded, wearing a small smile.
"Are you comfortable back there?"
"Yeah, I can lay down."
"Are you sure? You're not lonely?"
Amy giggled, and I glanced back to see her softly biting her lip as she looked at Rhea. "I'm fine, Rhea. Thank you."
I tossed my gaze to Rhea, a teasing smirk on my lips. "Wait... but how come you're not asking how I am?"
"Because I can already tell how you are," she retorted, slightly annoyed. I leaned over to kiss her cheek, the coolness of her skin feeling like a fresh glass of lemonade in the summer. Refreshing and unbelievably addicting. She eyed me sceptically, her eyes darting back and forth between me and the road, never losing focus.
I shrugged, laying my head against her shoulder and gently breathing her scent in. I could feel Amy's finger combing through my hair through the small space between the front seats. I closed my eyes and reminisced about the night before. Before then, Rhea and Amy's relationship had been pure tension. But last night, I witnessed them releasing that in a way that only brought them closer afterwards.
Rhea's earlier moment with Amy on the fire escape ladder showed that much. She cared for Amy now too, and it wasn't just because I cared for Amy. It was her own feelings and a part of me was happy about their growing closeness.
"Why are you being so clingy?" She asked in a soft voice, one of her hands sliding onto my thighs while the softness of her lips brushed against my hairline.
"Because you smell nice," Amy volunteered from the backseat. "I don't know what you smell like, but you just smell....nice. Really good."
I smiled in agreement. "Yes, and because you fucked me good. Put me in my place or whatever you said you'd do."
