My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at the men in the face. They weren't as big as the one out there with Rhea, but they were still intimidating.
Before I could start an awkward conversation, the bell rang again, and I just knew Rhea had more company. God, I hope she was okay because I had my hands full.
"She's in the back," I heard one of them say from the outside, making it evident they weren't here for her, but for me.
I turned and pulled the door open again, but before I could make it out, Rhea took her stance and drew her whip instead of her blade. I didn't know if that meant things were more serious, but it sure made me scared as hell. She iced it up and slashed the man in front of her into the far wall, hitting over the rows of shelves. But as I looked, the men were frozen dead.
One of the men in the storage room pranced at me then, forcing me to draw my blades. They flamed up instantly, and as I dodged his attack, I sliced through his neck.
"Cora, we have a big problem!" She shouted at me, but I was busy trying to survive the other two men's attacks.
Everything in the storage room was destroyed and overturned as we danced around the small space. A punch sent me into the wall separating us from the main store, creating a massive hole. I got up and brushed myself off, catching a glance of Rhea as I did. She was hopping from shelf to shelf, slashing her whip furiously and fast, hitting men and sending them flying everywhere. Yet, they kept coming through the door.
I turned back to my attacker just in time to receive another punch. Focus, Corissa. I blocked his other punch and swung my blade at him, slicing him in two at the waist. The last one grabbed me by the back of my throat and lifted me off the ground as if I were weightless.
"Corissa, a little help!" Rhea called again.
"I wish I could. But my hands are full," I shouted back.
I took a deep breath and swung myself forward. As gravity pulled me back, I bent my leg and stomped him in the gut. He released me, and I fell to the floor, landing on my palms. I quickly scrambled to my feet again and grabbed his head, swiftly slicing my blade across his neck.
"Rhea?"
My eyes found her through the large hole we made. She had her whip in both hands as she spun rapidly, tearing up everybody and everything in her path. I watched her in amazement, my jaws loose. There were at least ten bodies lying on the floor, and she just kept destroying them while I struggled with three.
Pathetic.
When she finally stopped, everything around her was frozen. All my flowers, the whole damn shop, but all the men were down. A kick in my back sent me flying to the ground again, and I landed on my face, my blade flying out of my hand. I knew without a doubt my outfit was ruined, and I must've got a scar from the fall. That pissed me off. From that point on, I only saw red. My whole body went up in flames, burning the leg that pinned me. I rolled onto my back, grabbed my blade from the rubble again, and slashed. Each slash was filled with frustration and pain. I didn't stop until he was on the floor in pieces.
Then I turned to attack the next two that came through the crooked back door. I ran towards them, sliding between them and slicing them in half at the waist.
A third one came in, immediately delivering a kick to my face as I slid right into his feet. For a moment, I saw only stars, my flames flickering out like a broken lamp. Then, his big frame was towering over me. I groaned and brushed myself off as I got back onto my feet. I looked at the man who kicked me, and my entire body flamed up again. I put the blades away and started throwing flames at him, forcing him to run and try dodging my attacks. I backed him into a corner, smiling wickedly. In a swift movement, I flicked myself onto his neck and held his head with my hands. I let my hands flame up, burning his face until he fell to his knees. I slid my blade across his throat and looked up at Rhea, who stared at me open-mouthed.
