Rhea's POV
The first light of dawn filtered through the broken windows of the warehouse, casting a soft glow over the dusty interior. I woke early, my senses alert to any potential threats. The events of the previous day had left us all on edge, and I knew we couldn't afford to let our guard down.
Cora and Amy were still asleep, their bodies huddled together for warmth. I watched them for a moment, a sense of protectiveness washing over me. Not just for Cora, but for Amy too. It was true that I felt nothing towards her once. Humans were not exactly appealing to me. For one, they were frail, overly dramatic and a bunch of the same, with nothing special about them.
Amy, however, has proved that to be a lie. Everything about her was special. Sure, she could be dramatic, but that wasn't a design flaw, as I'd previously thought. Instead, I find it quite endearing.
As I watched her sleep, I couldn't help but think about her being on this journey with us. It was dangerous for Cora and me as it was. To add a human to that was just asking for trouble. I knew that I tried to tell Cora, but she wouldn't listen. Now that Amy is already here, and has grown on me, I understand why Cora didn't want to leave her. Now, I don't want to leave her either. But I don't want her to get hurt in any way at all, and I will ensure that doesn't happen.
"Cora?" Gently, I shook Cora awake, my voice soft but firm as I kissed the back of her neck. My hand glided up her sides and I couldn't help appreciating every dip and curve of her body. I breathed her in deeply and let my lips graze her neck again. "Corissa."
She stirred, pressing her half-naked self even firmer to me and holding Amy closer. I found her bare hips to grip as I leaned over to kiss her cheek tenderly. "Wake up." She groaned, her eyes blinking open as she registered my presence. "It's time for another lesson, Princess," I informed.
With a groan, she sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Already? It's barely morning."
I nodded, my expression serious. "We don't have the luxury of time. The more you learn, the better prepared you'll be."
"Fine."
She gently peeled herself away from Amy to stretch out her tired muscles. But her gaze remained on the blonde and soon she was leaning in to kiss Amy's cheek. I smiled at the interaction and stood, grabbing her discarded pants and holding them out for her. "Come on, get dressed."
She stood, reached for the garment, and carefully slipped into it. We moved to the centre of the warehouse, the vast space providing ample room for our training. I guided her through a series of exercises, focusing on refining her control over her flames and enhancing her combat techniques with her wings. They weren't just there for their beauty. They were tools. Weapons. She was a quick learner and before long, her movements became more fluid and precise.
"Good job," I praised, my voice filled with genuine pride. "You're improving."
She flashed me a tired but grateful smile. "Thanks. No kisses?"
I rolled my eyes and walked up to her, pressing a firm kiss against her lips. She hung on to it for a few seconds before pulling away with a gentle tug on my lower lip. I growled, as the full sting of pain that somehow aroused me. Cora grinned and turned back to the makeshift bed. My eyes followed her, and I noticed Amy stirring from her sleep. She sat up, her golden hair tousled and her eyes still heavy with sleep.
With a steady breath to calm myself down again, I approached her, a thought forming in my mind.
Cora kissed her forehead and offered a good morning before sitting next to her. I do the same, wrapping my arm around her shoulder. She lays her head against mine and snuggles into me. "Good morning," I greeted gently.
