"Are you looking for someone, Moon?" Papa's words break my stare on the entrance door and I moved my eyes back on my plate. Steak and wine, mashed potatoes and salad. Usual food in Diaz house.
"Actually, yes." I nod, cutting the steak with a knife, rather, pretending to cut the steak with a knife since I'm not supposed to eat anything as Dark told me not to. "I'm waiting for a friend to arrive."
"A friend?" Papa's cocked his brow, "I don't remember inviting your friend to this dinner, Moon. It is supposed to be our family dinner." Papa stabs the knife into the steak and drinks the whole wine in one sip.
"I apologize for inviting an extra guest, Papa, but, he is my family too." I fake smiled, keeping the confidence on my face as I was supposed to look casual. "You know Light Grasso? He is my closest friend and now a family since I live with Grassos."
"That over-smart bastard?" Papa clenched his jaw and sighed in frustration. His palm tightened on the wine glass as he looked at it with my anger.
"The head counselor of the mafia industry you meant?" Dark corrected Papa's sentence, picking up the wine glass and meddling it leisurely. "You must know Light Grasso since your son, pardon, your bastard lost against him."
"You son of a bitch..." Papa slammed the wine glass on the table and it cracked. I flinched knowing Papa's anger was destructive and he'd throw anything at us if furious. But, I can't be nervous-
"Watch your words, Papa," I cut Papa's sentence and affirmed. "He is my boyfriend and not another employee from your office." I could feel my skin burning. "Keep your language appropriate. Since Dark said, he knows as filthiest language as you do."
"Aren't you talking back, Moon?" Papa's eyes turned into the siren shape, aura becoming darker and fist clenching harder and harder.
"I always did," I answered back. "Remember how you try to shut me up?"
"I should have cut your throat that day." Papa said and Dark almost got up from the chair with clenched fists but I held him. I held him and pulled him on the chair.
"And I should have had cut my wrist." I replied only to get a pair of worried eyes staring into my soul. "But you didn't let me. You couldn't. The only reason you kept me alive is because you need the money I hold under my name. Otherwise, you'd have celebrated my death with whisky and prostitutes."
"I've given you everything, Moon. Don't forget the luxury life you've lived all these years, only because you're Valentino Diaz's daughter." Papa and my usual arguments. "All the money you've got into your bank account belongs to me. All of the property, all of the assets and everything is earned by me."
"And Mama." I completed his sentence. "The fame you got into the Mafia world is because Mama was famous enough to put the shine on you. Without her, you'd have been just another mafia on the street."
