Chapter XVIII

I don't remember much about what happened that day, I passed out from loss of blood. Hikers found me two days later, they took me to a vet where I was giving blood donation.

"Large animal attack." The vet deduced but I knew that wasn't true.

Charlie found me and took me home, Bella was a crying mess when she found out about what happened to me.

Since when did she give a shit about me? All she cares about was Edward.

But anyways I stayed in her room to recover, my recovery was a fast one.

I mostly stayed inside, refusing to go outside. Knowing that she's out there, sitting, waiting.

One night I went outside to take the air in, then I saw...her.

We just stare at each other until I walk towards the fence, "What are you doing here?" I ask.

She just stare at me before letting out a sigh, "I want to see you..one last time."

I was confused. What did she mean by that?

"Wh-what do you mean by that?"

"I mean that my family, my pack, is leaving. We've been spotted by more humans and we need to leave now." She explains.

I was awful and sick to my stomach, I can feel a tear streaming down my face. "I-i understand."

"Artie." She placed her paw on the fence. "I..enjoy being around you. I'm glad I get to fall in..." she trails off but I knew what she's going to say.

"I understand." I told her.

She let out a sigh through the nose, she lick my nose and took off.

That night I couldn't sleep, all I could think about was Kore. It gnawing at me for a while, it feels like somebody ripped my heart out. It was the same feeling when Lola left us.

I pondered my choices now.

I stare at the engagement ring Edward had given her, I know now that she'll be safe with him.

Standing up, I remove my collar with the help of my paw. I placed it next to her pillow, I gently lick her hand. "Goodbye Bella." I whisper to her.

I jump off of her bed and nudge the door open and straight to Charlie's room, I watch him sleep for a bit. "Goodbye my friend." I said before leaving.

I headed straight outside to my new life, "Artemis?" I paused at a voice. Turning my head to look at Alex. "Where are you going?" He asked with a yawn.

"I,uh, I'm going to be away for a while bud." I respond.

"Going away?" He questioned.

I nod, "Yeah."

"When will you be back?"

I let out a sigh, "I don't know. But I want you to do me a favor."

He wag his tail, "Of course anything."

"I want you to protect The Swans at all costs. Especially Charlie." I tell him.

"Of course Artemis. I will do that."

I chuckled, "You're a good boy, Alex. You'll be a great K-9." Being around him ever since he's eight months old, I know he'll do great.

He rub his head on my chest as I lick his head, "Thank you Artemis, you're a good friend." He spoke.

"And you are mine." I replied. We broke awe as I turned to jump out the fence and run from my former home. Turning back to look at it one last time.

I had to make one last stop; Halsin and Drake's house. Scratching at the back door as I wait in the rain.

"Damn it's cold out here." Drake comments when stepping out with his brother.

"Artemis, what are you doing here? You know we don't have work until four hours later." Halsin says.

"I know but.. I won't be at work." I told them.

"So you made your decision then." Drake concludes.

I nod my head.

The brothers stare at each other, silently having a conversation with each other. "Well I hope you live your best life with her." Halsin spoke.

"You'll always be our brother...from another father." Drake jokes at the end. We laugh at that.

I let out a chuckle, "You boys always care for me when no dog did, I really hope we'll meet again someday."

"Oh come here brother." I placed myself in a sort of doggie hug with them. I was at the edge of crying, I've been with them almost all my life, ever since Charlie adopted me. Now I was leaving them.

I broke the hug and stare up at them, "So long brothers."

"Good luck, Art." Halsin said.

"Live a wonderful life with her and say Hi for us." Drake elaborate.

I chuckled, "I will."

It took me a while to track their tracks, they're around two hours old, I just hope I wasn't too late.

But I wasn't. I saw them heading north.

I was ecstatic to see Kore following her pack, she seemed sad but I hope me finding her will cheer her up. "Kore!" I shouted.

She stopped in her tacks and stare at me. I saw a glimmer of happiness in her eyes. She then run towards me as I did the same, we ended up nuzzling one another. I miss this.

She slowly pulled away from me, "What are you doing? Why are you here?"

"Because I love you." I finally said. "I have been for a while now, I know you said that you wanted to wait to find a mate but..." I trailed off.

She responds with a lick of affection on my snout, "I know what I said, but that's in the past, I want to be with you Artemis. Hunt with you, lay with you under the stars. Also the sight of you with Faline made my blood boil."

"Well she wasn't my type anyway."

"Hey!" Faline joined in.

"So you'll stay with me?" Kore ask. All I responded was a nod, there be times when I'll miss Charlie and Bella but I knew that they'll be okay.

Soon Vali step towards us, "So you'll join my pack then?"

"You mean our pack?" Taran elaborates.

"Our pack." Vali corrects with a chuckle.

"Yes sir." I replied.

The two leaders stare at each other before nodding. Vali look at me and nudge his head towards the pack, "Then let's be on our way." He walks back to them.

Me and Kore joined side-by-side, I stop for a moment to look back at Forks before following close behind.

I had made my choice by staying with the female that I love.
