**Author's note: This chapter is a bit longer than usual. Nonetheless I hope you enjoy :)**
Renna and I sat back down. My heart was in turmoil. I felt both lost and sad. It was said your soul animal was a reflection of who you are. But, I couldn't fathom how I was alike to a butterfly. I gazed down at my soul animal and inspected it closer. The little caterpillar was racing around my palm as if it were a racetrack.
"Next your highness, Krino."
My heart stopped beating. A wave of nausea consumed me. I felt sick. As if sensing my distress, the little caterpillar stopped playing around. It then rubbed its head against my thumb. Watching it act cute caused my heart to soften.
The prince sauntered onto the stage and stood before the podium. He elegantly slit his finger and let a droplet of blood roll down onto the crystal ball. After his blood had made contact, a blinding red light encompassed the whole area. It was as if the sun itself had appeared. The temperature soared by several degrees. After a few seconds the light faded, and a chubby baby dragon formed. It burped a mouthful of fire before wagging its small tail at the prince. Everyone else's soul animals, that had been awakened, cowered in fear. Only my little caterpillar seemed to be unbothered.
"Tier 11 dragon! Gosh I'm honoured to experience a tier 11 awakening in this lifetime," Sylvia exclaimed.
The group of elders beamed at the prince. Their eyes were like hawks sizing up their prey. No doubt the elders would fight each other over him later.
"It's nothing," responded the prince nonchalantly. He walked off the stage and glanced in my direction. A mocking smile was plastered on his lips. I ignored it. The little dragon leapt off the podium and hurriedly flew after the prince.
Sylvia continued to read out names. Soon it was Renna's turn.
"Good luck" I said encouragingly.
Renna walked towards the podium. Her green eyes sparkled with excitement. A beautiful smile was plastered across her face. She poked the dagger into her thumb and smeared some of the blood across the crystal ball. The crystal ball hungrily sucked the blood away before glowing a dazzling white.
A soft awoo sounded. After the light had faded, it revealed a fluffy white cub. It rolled onto its back and barked at Renna.
"A tier 6 arctic wolf," Sylvia called out.
The smile on Renna's face deepened. She scooped up the cub and returned back to sit down. The cub was restless on her lap and wanted to explore. It crawled over onto my lap and sat down. Its grey blue eyes looked at me. It then plopped down and curled up into a ball, closing it eyes.
I looked down at the little wolf speechlessly. I picked up the cub and gave it back to Renna. The cub then proceeded to hop back onto my lap and take a nap.
Renna chuckled. "Just leave her be."
As time went by, more people awakened different types of soul animals. There were aquatic animals like sharks to animals that soared in the sky like an eagle. Some soul animals were large in size and others were small.
"Nixy, please head up."
A girl with vibrant blue hair that complimented her brown skin stood up. Her turquoise-coloured eyes were dazzling. It was as if you were looking into the ocean. She had long bangs that lined her face. The back of her hair was much longer and flowed like waves. She wore a black dress that accentuated her curves. She walked up to the podium and drew some blood. Immediately after a blinding crimson light shone. After the light had faded one could make out a small red chick.
"Hahaha a chicken. What use is it, to lay eggs?" Someone in the crowd chuckled. Everyone else laughed alongside them. The red chick spat a fireball at the person who spoke, causing their hair to catch on fire. They screamed shrilly as they did their best to put out the fire. Everyone became silent and didn't dare utter a word, afraid the bird would take revenge if they misspoke.
