Silence before inner war

The same day, 2:16 P.M.

The sun is strong, and the road is still long. Sombra drives easily with the left arm passing through the window frame, and the other hand on the steering wheel. Amélie is lost in her thoughts, her head turned towards the window while watching the landscape pass by.

A heavy but not awkward silence settled in the pickup. Sombra decides to break the silence.

- You are scared ?

Her question will remain unanswered.

- I won't let you down, I'll be there from start to finish.

The silence never stops screaming.

Sombra opens her mouth, getting ready to say something, but she stops and the words remain stuck and keeps silent. Twenty long minutes passed without a single word exchanged. Then this sad silence is broken by Amélie's worried voice.

- I wonder if that's a good idea.

- Believe me, this is the best thing that could happen to you. (Reply Sombra)

A strong sense of melancholy envelops Amélie's bruised heart, reinforcing her ideas.

- Someone is bound to realize that I'm going to get better, and they're going to take my soul, again and make me a killing machine even more formidable.

- No one will touch any of your hair while I'm still alive. You can be sure.

- Maybe it's best we don't go, if I stay the way I am, we won't have any problems.

- You're not serious in what you're saying. . . huh ?

A long silence of reflection was felt.

- They don't think you're a human being. You're a machine to them, a means to an end. And as long as you're like that, you'll be reconciled as such for the rest of your life, if you don't change. I- . . . I- . . .

Sombra has trouble getting out her words which are much better spoken in her thought rather than by her word.

- I promised you, a new World, for us two, for you. I wish I could rewind the time to make life easier for you, unfortunately it's impossible for me. And I will never give up on that idea. You deserve all the beautiful things in the world. You have suffered enough for the benefit of bad people with a rotten and despicable background.
